"Ahem... Ladies and gentlemen,
'Carry On' by Kathy, a.k.a.
KDNightstar, has won for 'Best Comic Strip'!
'A World Of Our Own', also by Kathy, has won for 'Best Published Illustration'!
and... [dramatic drumroll] … 'Nobody Does It Better, Musical interlude by Princess Katre' by Frank and Kathy has WON for 'Best Dramatic Short Work'!!"
I was in a state of shock when I heard my video and my name called. I still am! Kathy pulled off an unbelievable hat-trick in all three categories she was nominated for, and I won my very first Ursa Major Award!
It all started so humbly with a comic called “Carry On”. They performed a musical number based off of “I’m The Bad Guy!” from DisneyXD’s “Wander Over Yonder”. I thought it was so cute so on a boring Saturday I, a simple guy who does video and audio editing mostly as a hobby, whipped up a quick fan music video based off those strips. Kathy absolutely loved it!
Later on, Kathy, alongside with Max, a.k.a.
maxgoof, and PunkTiger
punktiger, let us in on her super-secret project, “The Humiliation of Jinjur Maiham”, which gave Max a chance to show off his musical skills and put some of my video editing and production skills to the test. We thought it was good enough for the 2020 Ursa Major Awards so sure enough it got nominated. We had some pretty stiff competition in the “Best Short Work” category but we still got a decent second place.
Come the end of 2021. Princess Katre from “Carry On” just finished another musical number to the tune of James Bond’s “Nobody Does It Better” from “The Spy Who Loved Me”. My mind starts cranking again so I whipped out another fan video just for Kathy herself. A lil’ early Christmas present. She loved it so much she gave me the original PDF (Photoshop) files and worked with me to make a more professional looking music video. Putting all my talents to the test and with Kathy cranking out more artwork, we were on a time crunch to get “’Nobody Does It Better’ musical interlude by Princess Katre from the comic ‘Carry On’” completed by Christmas and another shot at the 2021 UMA awards.
This became the second time we’ve been nominated for the “Best Short Work” category. I never expected Kathy and I would ever win with the competition we were up against this time around, either. But when I heard our names announced my jaw just dropped! I couldn’t believe it!
I really have to thank Kathy for giving me the platform to show off my skills in the very first place. Otherwise, I would just be some unknown looking for his big break. Thank you so much for believing that “I’m The Bad Guy!”
And I suppose I have to give a shoutout to the other works in the “Best Short Work” category. The directors and all the folks involved in the other four works really pulled off some great stuff this year. Up until the official announcement video I was literally keeping my fingers crossed and my nails bitten. Next year the bullet-proof vests are on me, Kathy!
Lastly, and most importantly, I really have to thank all of you. The fans. I feel so humbled that "'Nobody Does It Better’ musical interlude" won. Winning this award really shows me how much all you furs, feathers, scalies and all you out there who not only voted for us (overwhelmingly, I might add) but watched and loved all my fan videos really care. This award humbly belongs to all of you. The "fans".
Thank you, one and all! When it comes to you, the fans:
Nobody Does It Better!
EDIT: I forgot to link to the videos I mentioned above so here they are, have a lookie!

I've also been praying that we'd win, because you deserve recognition for the work you've put into the videos you've made. I really wish we could have won last year's Ursa, because Max did a hell of a job on the vocals, and PunkTiger's voice-over as the match announcer was spot on.
I suppose we ought to be thinking about what the next project will be...
Congratulations!
