My deepest condolences. A loss in the family is never easy. If he didn't had to suffer, then be glad for him that he passed away in peace and in an old age.
My grandna had to deal with Alzheimer's desease for 5 years until she finally fell asleep. So death can be a blessing if there is no cure. Of course, for the family it hurts the most. You'll feel better soon. Maybe knowing this will make you feel less miserable now.
