If you are listed in this Journal and you want your line/listing/text changed, please post a Comment or send me a Note. If you are not listed in this Journal but would like to be, please post a Comment below requesting to be added (if your account was created in 2022 or has less than 30 Watchers, be prepared to 'prove' you are a real Ukrainian by contacting someone on the list who has more than 49 Watchers and convincing them that you are a Ukrainian from this region and getting them to post a Reply to your Comment that supports you or requests for you to be added).
The previous three 'regional focus' Journals for Kharkiv, Donbas, and Southern Ukraine focused on the heavily Russophone East and South of Ukraine (see map 1 or 2 from this Wikipedia article regarding the Russian language in Ukraine) because they were where most of the active fighting was by May/June 2022. The predominately Ukrainian-speaking West and Central regions of Ukraine have been comparatively safe from ground attacks during the war* with Russia (so far), although they suffer from ballistic/cruise missile attacks as well as an influx of refugees, unemployment, rising food prices, scarcity of gasoline and other effects from the war* being fought on the ground in the Donbas, Eastern and Southern Ukraine. This Journal will focus on the East-Center region where the Russian and Ukrainian languages have roughly equal prevalence, excluding most of Kyiv, which has many more than 30 FA members and deserves its own Journal (the Chernihiv, Sumy, eastern Kyiv, Poltava, Cherkasy and eastern Dnipropetrovsk oblasts). Other than the big cities of the NE region (Chernihiv and Sumy) that are near Belarus and Russia that were heavily damaged in February/March and some villages that were overrun by the Russian military on its drive towards Kyiv in February and March of 2022, much of this area does not have active fighting as of May/June 2022 but is threatened or 'just behind' the regions where active fighting is taking place.
*or "special military operation" if you prefer that phrase or are legally required to use it (on threat of up to 15 years in a gulag)
These 'regional focus' Journals seem to be most effective when they have about 30 people. Since I haven't been able to find that many FA members from just Northeast (NE) Ukraine and trying to cover Kyiv here would add too many (over 50), I am expanding this Journal to cover the entire East-Center region (essentially the remaining area east of the Dnipro river that was not covered in one of the first three Journals). This division is somewhat arbitrary but it is trying to make a group of the areas that would be in serious danger if the fighting expanded, or might be in danger if this happens again in 2, 5, or 10 years. Unlike the big Journal of Ukrainian artists who need assistance/help at https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10138995/ these 'regional focus' Journals are for everyone who is/was from that region/area of Ukraine (including people who are in good financial condition and non-artists). This Journal is a work in progress and will be updated over the next few days and weeks. Please post a Comment or send me a Note if you want to be added or want your listing/text changed.
ALERTS & REQUESTS: (updated 21 July, 2023)
There does not seem to be a popular 🇺🇦 FA member (with 999+ Watchers) up in Chernihiv or Sumy to try to help out the newer members (in those damaged cities) -- maybe some FA member in Kyiv or even Lviv will volunteer to do it. [added 19 June... still waiting 19 July]

UArt is a new (as of 6 Sept) collaborative 'art store' account to help showcase artists from Ukraine
Rishinoya saw the 14 January Russian missile strike on a Dnipro apartment building, see her account of it at https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10443906/ (by Rishinoya) <-- she saw it happen!

Northeast Ukraine
This region includes the border between Ukraine and Belarus/Russia that is east of the Dnipro river and north of Kharkiv oblast and the Donbass (Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts). The major cities of Chernihiv and Sumy suffered heavy damage in the first couple months of the Russian invasion, while the fate of the towns and villages varied a lot - with some being occupied and others being bypassed or left alone. The Russian army withdrew from this region in early April 2022 and by May/June the only internationally reported attacks in the area is regular cross-border shelling from Russia into the Sumy region.
-- NE region (Chernihiv and Sumy oblasts, & Kyiv oblast east of the Dnipro) --
Chernihiv/Chernihivshchyna oblast:
[Total population is just less than 1 million and it has the lowest population density in the country. On 5 April 2022 Governor of Chernihiv Oblast Vyacheslav Chaus stated that the Russian military has left Chernihiv Oblast]
Chernihiv/Chernigov/Черні́гів/Черни́гов city (heavily damaged in March, 2022):
-- FA members (3) --

Sumy/Sumska/Sumshchyna/Сумська́ oblast:
[Total population is just more than 1 million. On 8 April 2022 Governor of Sumy Oblast Dmytro Zhyvytskyi stated that all Russians troops had left Sumy Oblast.]
Sumy/Суми city (UA controlled, heavily damaged in March, 2022; still has occasional cross-border shelling from Russia in June):
-- FA members (1) --

Kyiv oblast: (just the part east of the Dnipro river possibly including the city of Brovary/Brovari but not Kyiv)
<this section is still in work - contact me if you are from Brovary (Brovari) or Kyiv oblast east of the Dnipro>
Brovary/Brovari city:

Central Eastern Ukraine
This region includes the portion of Ukraine east of the Dnipro river but not bordering Russia, the Black Sea, or occupied territories. It is 'comparatively' safe by May/June 2022 except for ballastic and cruise missile attacks, which can happen anywhere in Ukraine (but seem to be particularly frequent in Odesa and Dnipro). It includes some areas that are west of the Dnipro river just to keep an oblast (political sub-division) that spans the river together in one place.
-- Central NE region (Poltava and Cherkasy Oblasts) --
Poltava oblast:
[Total population is under 1.4 million. The entire Poltava oblast is east of the Dnipro river but is comparatively 'safe' since it does not directly border Russia or the Donbas. It has not suffered direct ground attacks during the 2022 invasion.]
Poltava city:
-- FA members (3) --

Kremenchuk city (and nearby):
https://www.furaffinity.net/search/?q=Kremenchuk -- no search results in early June but by 27 June there were several artworks about a Russian missile strike on a shopping mall
-- FA members (2) --

¹written here on Feb 25, 2022; however things have changed after a Russian missile strike on a shopping mall on Jun 27.

Cherkasy oblast:
[Total population is under 1.2 million. It has not suffered direct ground attacks during the 2022 invasion. Only a small part of the oblast is east of the Dnipro river, but this list will include anyone in the part of Cherkasy oblast that is west of the Dnipro river & Cherkasy city, just because this list is fairly small.]
Cherkassy city:
[Cherkassy is on the comparatively safe west bank of the Dnipro river between Kyiv and Kremenchuk]
Uman' city: [no known FA members]
[Uman' is about halfway between Kropyvnytskyi (Kirovohrad Oblast) and Vinnytsia (Vinnytsia Oblast) ]
Other/unknown village/town:
-- FA members (1) --

-- Central SE region (Dnipropetrovsk Oblast east of the Dnipro river) --
Dnipropetrovsk oblast: (only the eastern portion & Dnipro city for now) [no known FA members]
[Total population was ~3.14 million (2021 est.) before the war.]
Pravlohrad city: (the major city in part of Dnipropetrovsk oblast that is east of the Dnipro) [no known FA members]
Dnipro city:
-- FA members (~15) --

Kryvyi Rih/Krivoy Rog/Кривой Рог city (UA controlled, a 'front line' city):
[Kryvyi Rih is sort of the southern analogue/equivalent of Kharkiv or Sumy, but does not get as much international news]
-- FA members (6) --
<FA members in Kryvyi Rih are currently listed in https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10230885/ and are repeated here 'cuz it is a 'frontline' city>

HOW YOU CAN HELP!:
see the section in the 'southern Ukraine' focus Journal (just above the Quotes): https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10230885/
You may link to my four Journals about artists/furries from East-Center Ukraine, Kharkiv, Donbas, and Southern Ukraine. You may copy any/all of them or translate them to Russian/Ukrainian or any other language. Please give any/all of them and/or the big Ukrainian artist support Journal an advertisement/repost/'signal boost' (post a link to them) if you want to.
Quotes from some people on FurAffinity who are in/from northeast and east-central Ukraine
Here are some assorted separate quotes I have read (since I started working on this Journal) that were written by people currently in or from northeast and east-central Ukraine. I tried to focus on peoples' individual personal experiences and their expressed opinions. I am also trying to reflect the overall 'spirit' of the area/region. The people and their viewpoints vary and although the order is not random they should not be read as if they come from one person who was trying to tell a consistent story. Any appearance of a consistent story from their order was created by me and the order I chose for these separate quotes from different people from different towns/cities the area:
> "I'm from Ukraine and my native language is russian (i know it doesn't make sense)"
> "I saw your regional focus Journals before"
> "yes, sure, I'd like to be in the list!"
> "Yes, I can be included in the list, do I need to write something? unfortunately I don't know anyone on the site"
> "unfortunately I don't know any artists from my or Sumy region on FA."
> "I think we should not include us <in a city on the Dnipro river> yet, while everything is calm,"
> "Kinda dead because there is to much work I need to do, but I'm ok!"
> "From my experience only one russian person helped me at the beginning of the war"
> "Everybody gets tired of the news, but the problems do not disappear"
> "Okay, I've uploaded some photos."
> "I could help people, especially those who decided to go to Germany."
> "I sent messages to the new people - hopefully they will join our group) Also thank you - i created the group and there is already 7 members!"
---
> "I'm really appreciate your work!"
> "I am very grateful to you for what you are doing!"
> "And thank you so much for helping ukrainian, it means a lot for us"
> "Дякую тобі за цю важку працю! І дякую за побажання"
People can claim their individual quotes if they want to, but do not need to admit/claim the quotes as theirs. If someone wants me to remove their quote or to move it somewhere else in the list of quotes, please send me a Note. I tried to "tell the story" that I thought I was reading from people in the region but the "story" I wrote is not the only story that can be told and I am sure some people will not agree with parts of it. If anyone else wants to put the quotes in a different order to "tell a different story" I will probably be amused to see it, however if you want to tell your own personal story it is probably better to do that in your own Journals or in the text under one of your own artworks and just include a link to that here.
P.S. Together the four 'regional focus' Journals I have completed so far cover 12 out of a total of 24 of Ukraine's oblasts (administrative regions). I may eventually try to make Journal(s) to highlight the other oblasts/regions that have been heavily affected by the war, including the city of Kyiv and its suburbs, all of which saw fighting or significant missile attacks in the first two months of the invasion. Kyiv definitely deserves its own list but I am hoping someone from the city will eventually undertake that effort. Ideally people from other regions would do something like this Journal for their own region. If you would like to help (or work on any of those) please send me a Note and it will be finished much sooner.
