The Death of Minecraft?

General
Mojang (and more so Microsoft) is overstepping their boundaries with the WORST decision they've ever made, and this is coming right after they ignored the community on several other issues over the last 2 years. From scrapping features, to breaking promises, to just flat out ignoring everyone and shifting blame (fireflies and birch forests anyone?). Microsoft started out improving the game at first after they initially purchased it, but now they're going down a rabbit hole of hurting their player base and ignoring every bit of input from their users.
They now have a set of community guidelines that supersede server moderation.
How would you like to have your entire account banned from EVER playing online again over something that got misconstrued as offensive or because someone didn't understand a joke with only like 10 people on 1 server? Or maybe they didn't get an inside joke and got angry and that was all it took?
If you got banned from the server you'd normally go "well damn, guess I should watch what I say- or maybe just go to another server where people don't care and just play with only my friends"
That won't be an option anymore though.
Yes, I am not joking. Private server owners are no longer going to be able to control who can or cannot join after this coming update, and people will now be permanently banned because enough players reported them to Microsoft's new automated all encompassing moderation system (which about 99.9% of the community hates after realizing what it means). We already have enough issues from servers like Hypixel where their false bans go off left and right, and player moderation is so much more effective when it is done on a small scale. It is LITERALLY the reason I refuse to join servers like that.
Please let private server owners moderate their own servers. Everyone has a different idea of what is considered hate speech, and furthermore adult only anarchy servers do exist where people shouldn't have to worry about their speech at all. It's been made abundantly clear the community as a whole hates this idea. Let people be shitheads and get banned on a server level. Don't overstep your reach here Microsoft... for a game that has been alive for around 14 years or so without this feature.
Griefers can re-write their own messages to completely change the context of someone else’s. Servers can completely edit any message sent to them and make the fake look legit. The "unable to be faked" thing they keep saying about messages due to their new chat system is a complete lie, and it's already been tested and proven.

Pray the legends on mod launchers give us something to work around it
Either way, I'm kinda glad I broke off the updates train around 1.16 or so. microsoft can eat shit.
i believe the way it works is that the bans can only be 1.19.1+, but if you do get banned, its through the authentication servers, making the ban work on pretty much all versions
im pretty late, you might already know this by now, but seen this and thought id say
If they can't make bank off of peoples misery, then no-one can have fun with a game anymore.
MC Dungeons? It's like the LOOK of minecraft without any of the actual play
The new one looks similar, and I don't plan on playing what is essentially Age of Empires or some base defense game but with the look of Minecraft.
People DON'T play the game for the look... they play it because it is a sandbox game with very light survival elements where you can experience freedom, and that is why original Minecraft is the only successful one- until they end up breaking it anyways.
It's funny that they were pretty quick to make ammendments to it about profanity and the like but this is still just, awful. I don't condone Microsoft meddling where they have no right to, and if they don't go back on this then I guess I'm dropping Minecraft for good and waiting patiently for whenever Hytale comes out, fingers crossed it doesn't get screwed over. :/
that's how it typically goes for games that have private servers. and that's likely what's going to need to happen here.
private servers for minecraft are going to need to start requiring account registration for them be made entirely SEPARATE from accounts registered for the official minecraft servers. which would cut them off from this rule change.
official game servers have their "official rules" while private servers are separate and have their own rules.
that's how it is with MMOs and it looks like that now needs to happen with minecraft too. maybe
sounds like the change square made that can potentially get massive free companies (guilds) destroyed in ffxiv if so much as a single person makes a report about something they so much as perceive to be offensive in some way.

ah, hello moderation system that TOTALLY isn't automated despite the fact everyone knows it is fully automated.
i bet they tried to make that claim, didn't they?
"Everyone has a different idea of what is considered hate speech, and furthermore adult only anarchy servers do exist where people shouldn't have to worry about their speech at all."
YEP! it's the same thing square did! because we can't have people going around saying mean and/or offensive words.
What da heck is happening with them?!
(Happened a few months ago.) I was invited to play on a Minecraft realm server. I hadn't played MC in about a year so figured I'd give it a go.
Mojang requests that I connect my Minecraft account with my Microsoft account, so I do so. I try to update my "old" minecraft launcher, and am unable to, says I need a new launcher (generally.) I ask my realm - friends if they know anything about this "new" launcher, none of them seem to know what I'm talking about. I try a few more times before I delete the launcher, and I head over to Mojang to download the "new" launcher. "Windows 11 Launcher For PC." Load the launcher, fails to load, says I need an X-Box Gold account to play. I already bought MC like 10 years ago, why do I need gold to play -at all-?
I click on the link and it takes me to the X-Box store to purchase Minecraft from the store. "Microsoft Store Minecraft, Two Stars." ... Sure, whatever, I'll buy it again. Oh wait, I can't, because Microsoft says I already own it. Try to re-download the launcher, fail to load, I need to download the launcher from the Microsoft store.
Googles about launcher options. If there's a second option, I can't find it. Contact my friend who works in IT, he spends 3 hours trying to figure out what version I own as well as a second launcher option, he can't find anything. Meanwhile none of my friends who play on the realm seem to know what's wrong since they're somehow still working on the old launcher.
I go to Mojang for support, I have to enter my account information to enter. It says my information isn't attached to a Minecraft account.
What? I was just here yesterday to connect my account to Microsoft? Can't confirm information either, because I can't get the "new" launcher to function, which seems to be the only other way around that! I take a secondary rout for their support, finally get into contact with someone. Conversation boils down to:
"Sorry, we have no idea why it's not working, seems you're SOL."
Never get a follow-up response.
As a last-stich effort, I manage to find my "old" launcher download file off of my PC which I never deleted. I install that, and for some reason, it installs up to the latest version.
Go to access Realms. "This launcher isn't compatible with Realms. Please download the new launcher to access Minecraft Realms." NO information on what where or how to access this new launcher. FML.
In any case, if you need a break away from MC, I'd suggest checking out Core-Keeper. It's still pretty new, but a lot of fun to play with friends!
I do hope that Microsoft is able to swing it back around, though. It might had just been a case of them trying to milk the product for as long as they could while they owned it, they are fallowing suspiciously in the steps of EA. "If it's broke and we don't have a fix for it, oh well, buy it again or try again later, we already have your money, not our problem anymore." -Especially- with this new ban method.
I could just be doom-calling though. Minecraft still has bucketloads of potential, and is still fun to play, when you can XD
I haven't played in nearly 2 years now, and always preferred single player since i'm real easily distracted and always found it hard to do anything in a public server. ^_^;
