Off to Tonopah tomorrow, road tripping to Westercon. With a little side trip to Colorado to drop off my Nephew at the Rainbow Gathering. I like to drive.
I know of two places called Tonopah, one in Arizona and one in Nevada (just drove through there a few weeks ago), both are tiny. I'm assuming there's one closer to you?
Tonopah Nevada does have a clown motel next to a cemetery, that would make for an interesting con hotel!
I'll be damned the con IS in Tonopah Nevada!
A short drive to Goldfield is worthwhile if you like neat old places. I found some old mining drill bits I'd been looking for for years there at a roadside "anteeks" shop.
Less that 2 hours away in Hawthorne is the Hawthorne Ordnance Museum, a free museum full of ordnance displays from the local ordnance factory and the Army base/test ranges. Well worth a visit! Plus a very scenic drive between all three places.
Enjoy the con in Tonopah NV. I believe the Blue Angels train out that way. Con in Tonopah AZ would be interesting - truckstop, one old hotel, one hot spring place, one restaurant and a Hickman's Egg Farm - aka the chicken sh*t factory...

Enjoy the con!
Its been too long since I went to any cons.
I need to change that.
Have fun.

(That song by Joe Bethancourt was on the CD released as a compilation after Conterpoint 3 in 2000, CD also titled "The Filk Was Great...")
Haven't been to a good ol' sci-fi/fantasy con in some years myself; have a blast!
