Very Late Update [July 2022]
3 years ago
It's been a while since one of these update journals, the last one being for... Technically October 2020, which was kind of a bittersweet announcement >>;;
Anyway, things have been getting better since. There was a lot of work for the move and getting things set up in the new house. It feels much better to be back 'home' where I was born, to the point where it's almost perfect for me here. Summers are just a little warm, but nothing like the humid swamp of the last house I was living in (not including the apartment).
I mention this, because... The house is big, and that means there's a lot of work to be done in terms of maintenance. Mostly cleaning, lawn mowing/shovelling snow and such. So that's why my writing has taken a little bit more of a back seat; I'm the one pushing myself to do these things, usually solo. Mix that with doing my aunt's lawn (though being paid to do so), exercise/self improvement, and people wanting to talk, it makes for quite the tired bear.
But I wanted to reduce the amount I spent towards writing for years now, because... Well, it's been nearly 9 years since I started, and I can't say it has been 'successful' judging by the numbers. My luck for getting seen/noticed has never been that good, so this is a pretty typical result.
It doesn't seem like I've written a lot in this past year, but it's more that I didn't post a lot and have a few projects in the works. I've done a few gifts for friends and one-shots, but never really got the 'go ahead' to post them (though I didn't ask either). I guess to me it doesn't feel like a lot, but I've been wanting to promote my older works for a while now. Hence the Novel Cards you've been seeing lately.
I've been wanting to try more 'community/watcher' based content for my fans. Requests don't really turn out well enough, imo, mostly due to the amount of time it takes to get to know a character. Be it an OC or one from a show; which I will feel like I need to watch the entire thing to really get the full understanding of said character. And if you know me IRL is that I don't do tv/movies well.
That's where the tag related 'contests' came in; it was something people could kind of work on together and it did play with my strengths. But I feel like people are getting sick of them, so maybe I should stop trying those. The participation turnout has been kinda bad.
To be honest, I'm not really sure what else to do. I've got a few ideas/stories in the works (which I'll make a list in a bit) but I'm not really confident that people are going to find them interesting. Drunken Lullabies work well for FA, but nowhere else, and well... They're just silly little scenes- I can't even call them stories, honestly.
Oh, and don't suggest "write for yourself". Doing the Novel Cards proves to me that I do have Enough for myself to enjoy for probably the next ten years or so.
For now, here's some suggestions of things in the works:
Afterlife Act 5 - Technically not started, but plans are for it to be done by the end of next year. Hopefully complete for my 10 year anniversary... I can't say it'll be worth the hype >>;
Come With Me To The Otherside Act 2 - A novel that's kinda gone the way of Memory's Fragment: no interest from anyone basically means "you're wasting your time, bear" to me. I did start this, but... I feel like I'm wasting my time.
Party Monster - Remember that copper dragon from the Hung Up/Unreal series? Yeah, it is her backstory and how she became ruler of her lands. This is supposed to be a longer one, my guess is possibly 3 acts long. I'm hoping to get the first act done by the end of this year, but no promises.
Side Story One-Shots - Drunken Lullabies? All For You (Second Person View)? Anyone interested in things like these? If so, what kinks? There's a decent list I won't touch, but the worst that will happen is that I'll kindly decline.
Is there anything else people are interested in seeing/reading? Or is writing a dead media at this point, and I should be focusing on something else like 3D modelling and maybe 2D animations? I can't say I'm very confident in my ability to do them, but I am curious about your thoughts.
