Where Have I been? New Hobby and what the future holds.
Hi all! It's been a while since I've uploaded anything.
So where have I been? Well for the last month I had my future in-laws visiting the country and so it was quite difficult to get any work done. But even before that, I'm sure it's noticable that other than a few YCHs I haven't really done a lot of drawing. So what's going on?
Well, I've closed my commissions for a while now. Last year I had a severe issue with my wrist that developed after years of pain and issues, and I had to get surgery done for it. After over 6 months of physical therapy and working hard I managed to get most of the movement back in my wrist, which is more than I've had for years. As such I wasn't taking many commissions throughout 2021. And now in 2022 I've sort of taken a step back from art as a result. While I'm still drawing and still taking commissions and doing art, I'm working a lot slower than what I used to and I haven't been actively looking or advertising my commissions. As of April I closed my art commissions completely and have decided to take a break from drawing until further notice.
Will I ever continue to draw? I don't know. I certainly never intend on giving up drawing for good, but right now I have no plans to re-open my commissions until further notice. At least not art commissions.
In February this year, I actually decided to learn more about fursuit making. While working on a head, I realised I couldn't sew. Other than sticking a thread through a needle, I didn't know anything about sewing or making things that required sewing, and I wouldn't be able to make the head I wanted to until I was able to sew. so part of me closing my commissions is because that moment lead to a new hobby. I picked up sewing very quickly and within a couple of days, I started making stuffed animals. I figured if I could make a stuffed animal I could make a fursuit. While now I realise they're two totally different beasts, it did teach me to sew and is now something I enjoy doing.
It isn't super taxing on my wrist and as such I can sew for hours at a time without issues, where as drawing causes my hand and wrist to get sore after a couple of hours. I don't think I'll ever be perfectly healthy with regards to my wrist, there will always be some lingering damage and scar tissue causing issues and possibly arthritis in the future. So sewing is a good way for me to get my creativity out and not hurt myself.
So what does this all mean for my commissions? Well for now I'm open for stuffed animal commissions, and I've recently ordered a large amount of fur so I can try to make a full fursuit of one of my characters, Camo, and hopefully in the future open up fursuit commissions. I've made feet paws, hand paws, and a tail so far so I'm slowly gaining experience with fursuits. But until I'm done with my suit I don't intend on opening suit commissions. But for now, custom plush are up for sale, art is on break until my queue is empty (I have a few very complex images in my queue and as mentioned I am working slow with my drawing) so I will not be taking art commissions for a while, and watch this space as fursuit parts will be available in the future.
