The Future, Part II
an update on life: i am moving into my own lodgings very very soon! my parents are planning to move...basically halfway up the country into the middle of nowhere, and i very much did not want to do that, so i'm staying where i am and moving into a house share. i make a decent amount of money with my job, save all my tips which means extra income, and i've got a pretty good deal on rent given the Trying Times of inflation
but...i could always do with an extra bit of dough. and i think i've figured out how to make it happen
so first of all - commissions are coming back soon. thanks to advice from the late terry pratchett, i've figured out a method to do writing that keeps me working at a consistent rate alongside my day (well, more like night) job and doesn't burn me out. i don't really have a solid ETA on when i would start them back up, just sort of soonish, but i would note that i will be conducting them in a kind of different manner for the time being with a different pricing. i can't really describe solid details, but what i would say to people who are interested is that the focus would be on shorter stories overall.
however, i'm also thinking about starting a patreon.
for a long time i have considered doing a patreon, but prior to now i found myself largely worried about whether it would be worth it - whether i would be able to output enough to justify people paying me for stuff. with this new method however, i believe i could do that, by dedicating half the week to commissions, and the other half to personal stuff (including the longform project previously mentioned in my last journal, which is starting to take something of a more solid shape lately). as far as the non-commission work goes, i think it would be short TF stuff, maybe decided through a poll of some sort, alternating with previews of my bigger projects. this wouldn't be a paywall for my writing or anything - everything that would go on to the patreon would ultimately be released publicly in some way, i think, but i have to figure out how i would want to do that.
the patreon is a longer term thing that i still need to think about, so that might not be coming for a while - and this does kind of function as a feeler for interest, i suppose, so let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in a patreon?
anyway, it's a scary/exciting time in my life. i'm looking forward to it. i hope you will too.
PS. if you're wondering about where the other journal i posted last month went - furaffinity didn't like it and removed the post. i don't mind too much since the goal of the document was achieved regardless. we're moving on with life, now - it's looking brighter, i think.
