I happen to prefer complete anthro since it's what I find more appealing, but the animal head and human body is more true to their forms, so either way I'd be happy. :P If you're taking votes, however, put me under anthro.

I love seeing animal heads with human bodies as the Egyptian gods/goddesses entails. I always admired my heritage of Egyptians and it is believed that both are connected as perfect harmony of the land and its people. I would love to see how you would draw Re, I have him depicted as a lion even though it was not his main form. But you have a very keen eye for making things beautiful and its lovely to see an artist that like egyptian cultures.

What I find most amusing about the Egyptian pantheon is that MOST of the Egyptian gods (and they had a bazillion) were plain old humans, or odd-colored humans. We just tend to focus on the 'animal' ones.
I think my favorite is the screwed up goblin-monkey guy who protects people while they're sitting on the shitter. Can't remember his name. XD Also the guardian of children, soldiers, and anyone helpless or in a situation they can't control.
I think the traditional human body, animal head look can be really cool if done right so that it doesn't just look like a human wearing a mask. But then I think nude male torsos are sexy :B
I think a lot of furries probably are going to go the other way though. Maybe you should do a mix?
Oh...and there's a really cool goddess not many people seem to know about named Mafdet, did a pic of her once. yep, indeed. I wouldnt mind drawing the human ones either. Im not scared of drawing humans. I just dont bother to upload them because 99% of my following usually never clicks on anything human I draw.

I tend to be fairly torn due to my beliefs.....I'm more comfortable with the traditional portrayal over all, human with animal heads or their full animal forms. But, there's this part of me that likes the full anthro depiction so long as it's done well.

Over all, I'd love to see more traditional forms as they are quite rare to come by in this fandom.

I think it depends on the style of the art, for me. If it's being drawn in that traditional flat/stylized way, then the animal head on human body looks more appropriate, but if it's something that's being fully rendered in a more realistic style, I prefer all-anthro. Of course, you might be able to sort of go halfway -- animal head, short fur on the body, and a tail, but also with more human-type feet and hands, that sort of thing.

Part of me wonders if the whole 'animal heads on human bodies' thing doesn't stem from their lack of artistic abilities in depicting their deities, rather then them actually being seen as that.

the anthro v ersions would probably be easier to pull off in terms of making them look NATURAL to us but oh well. Ill figure something out if I decide to go the human/animal way.

I think they actually saw them that way because the hardest part to draw anthrofied - i would imagine for them- would be the head and thats what is already there.

Yeah, i can see that, but for the most part the heads seem to be almost pasted onto the bodies in a lot of ways. It's actually probably a lot easier to just take a 'crop' of a hawk head and paste it onto a man's body. Their art is so simplistic, it'd be easy enough to do and get away with.

Actually there is no record of how the gods "appeared" to the Ancient Egyptians. They draw their gods and goddesses like that to connect the particular name with some of the attributes they embody. There are even syncretizations of gods, kind of like blends of different gods put together--like instead of Hathor or Sekhmet, you can also have Hathor AND Sekhmet appear together in one form (Hathor-Sekhmet).

The gods could appear in full-animal form, as fully human, or as a mix. Very brain-bendy stuff XD

I enjoy both, but if I have to choose, I'd go for the anthro. I find the form more appealing overall. There are exceptions -- Thoth and Khepri look seriously weird in full anthro to me. For them, feral or traditional work better for me. Not that anthro couldn't be done well, just that I haven't seen it work yet that I can remember.

Lady, you ask tough questions. While I certainly enjoy fully anthros more, I have to go with the animal-headed humans. There are several reasons for this:
1. Whave enough anthro versions going around already.
2. I like it when someone stays as close to the originals as possible. We have enough fakes and would-be's already.
3. It actually looks more creepy that way. So familiar and different at the same time

I like to see 'godly' interpretations. Basically that the non human features are merely the best facsimile of how they actually look, but in reality they merely resemble those animals.

For the coolest representations of egyptian gods in cinema check out the scifi movie Immortel aka. Godiva. They all look like living statues, it's awesome :D

I can only second that. The original comics are a bit confusing but quite good as well. But they might be difficult to get in the US. Thankfully the artist was also the writer and director of the movie. The style and graphic of the movie can take some time to get used to.

I am familiar with the animal headed deities, personally.

Being a worshiper myself, I vastly prefer the human body-animal head apperances over "full anthro" versions.

It'll depend on what you want to accomplish, I myself likes both versions. I have yet to see many of the human body animal head though so that's why I gotta root for them.
I'd also like to see some of the more unknown ones like Nut, Ptah, Thoth and stuff. All I've seen is Bast/Sekhmet and of coarse anubis (nothing against him but he IS overdone, so said the anubite lol).

bast, sekhmet and anubis are indeed overdone in this fandom.
I intend to make either a bookmark format version of them, and a full page illustration depicting their mythologies/stories.

Sounds good! I liked that story since it seems to be one of the only ones where the gods actually makes a mistake by sending sekhmet on humanity. My favourite one though is the one where Set (another god who I've never seen around here :P) kills osiris, scattering his body across all of egypt in order to prevent his resurrection.

I should try and get along to do something similar with my own Norse pagan mythology, it's a shame though that there's no anthro there.

What about the even lesser known goddess Kehebut? She was depicted as a maiden with an ostrich head, a maiden with a snake head, or an snake with ostrich wings- she was the daughter of Anubis and cleansed the hearts of the dead before their judgment.

Oh, I am all for the full on Anthro versions myself. I love them a lot better that way. The old classic look is nice, but the full on anthro look fit them better in my view.

I would love to see them all full anthro because I have seen them all in their original forms. This goes most especially for Horus and Sobek

I prefer their true representation. It was done to express their likeness to the humans who worshiped them and yet set them apart and made them godly imbuing them with supernatural and animal powers.

Complete anthro. I absolutely *adore*  hbruton 's Egyptian deity art. Especially her paintings of Set in his "Set Beast" form. Very few artists realize that he wasn't seen as a Anubian-styled jackal, but something completely diffrent! I would also love to see artwork of the far lesser known deities as well. I do love Anubis and Bast much like everyone else, but the other deities need love too!

Having studied Egyptology for a number of years, I like both. My preference? Anthro.

I tend to like anthro best.. much like the Pin-Up Portfolio peace that was based on Artemis (at least I *think* it was Artemis, if I remember correctly)

I like the original depictions the best, with animal heads on human bodies. And what's this I read in the comments about you not uploading human art? :O I would love to see more of your work, human, anthro, animal or hell, scenery work. No matter what it is, your art is an inspiration, and just because most people watch you for your furry stuff, doesn't mean some of us wouldn't appreciate what ever else you decided to upload :)

I won't say fully anthro is 'wrong' since their conceptions changed over the thousands of years... but that would lead to a whole long conversation about what to consider canon.

I personally prefer the traditional animal-head-and-human-body deal, but I think most fans of anthro art would prefer... well, the sort of anthro that they normally see, even though I think the traditional method of portraying Egyptian Gods/Goddesses is -technically- anthro......???

yes, it is -technically- anthro either way. However, some prefer one depiction over the other.

I prefer full furry with no human hair on their head myself.

I have even seen images from the Egyptians depicting some of the Gods as being more fully anthro from the very early times of Egyptian history. It seems that the "head" thing came a bit later for ease of depiction and because everything about them was very symbolic rather than realistic. Such as why they often have the golden wheat stalk attached to their belt which is a sign of their fertility and potency.

Human and animal!

I would say go with the Anthro version mainly because of pictures of the Egyptian God/Goddess that I've seen. They have all been geared toward the anthro standard.

I would say Anthro because I am here on FA for anthros/ferals after all, not human-animal hybrids.

The correct representation is indeed animal head on human body, but I see nothing wrong representing them as full anthro animals, as symbols or whatnot. Personally I'd like to see other Egyptian gods represented as full anthro's. Other ones than Anubis, which is indeed overdone for all the reasons why one could imagine... in the furry fandom.

yeah, I do intend on doing OTHER things besides Anubis and Bast. Like mafdet or thoth. Horus, Ra. And even Ammut, even if shes not a god. It would be cool to see HER anthrofied. Ill still draw the popular ones none the less. it wouldn't feel right to draw a bunch of other Egyptian gods, and exclude them =P
It would be the equivalent of excluding dragons, griffins, and unicorns if i were doing a mythological beast project instead. Something would be missing.

i love the full animal/anthro versions and not the animal head and humanbody version. it looks like they ripped of an animal head and put that thing on their shoulders ^^'

I personally really like anthros.. But when it comes to drawing egyptian gods it will be more accurate to have them drawn as humans with animal heads..

So my vote would be for "humans with animal heads" for this (I can enjoy anthro art when you finish the project :3 )

If I were doing them full anthro, they would be plantigrade - for sure.

I would prefer the animal heads and human bodies, too. That´s more historical accurate and would be an interesting change from the full anthro characters we see here (not that I don´t like full anthro).

Personally, I'm not fussed either way. Though I am slightly more partial to the real representations, I've seen many anthro varieties that have been quite nice as well.
