Folks have been talking about this for the last couple of days. It sounds like you might be able to get updates by paying, but without a sub.

At least there are still high quality free open source programs like Krita -Which I use- and Gimp.

Also, they don't have the kind of base that Photoshop did when they went subscription. It's entirely possible that if their sales tank they might reconsider.

Yes but GIMP is awful to use.

Haven't tried it myself. I've been enjoying Krita, and it seems fairly powerful.

Only up to a version . I think 2.04 will be the last that allows manual payments.
Onwards, all will be monthly payment.

The trade off is that there's still perpetual licenses So i'll still will be using Version 1 of CSP and wait till 3.0

Though everyone is upset about this which i don't blame them but there are alternative and free open source software which considering i use both free and paid software.

GIMP keeps moving up the ranks....

...if only because the other programs are racing towards the bottom.

GIMP is so awful though, and doesn't have all the filters I like.

This turn to subscription models on utility software has me entertaining the idea of returning to some of my procurement methods during college in the early ‘00’s. It’s not necessary yet, there are functional open source alternatives to Reader, Photoshop, and Office. I've heard that there are alternate purchase models for both the original/current version and the first few updates of 2-point-0; I've also read people advising others to back up their current installer for CSP.

Yeah. This one really gutted me. Not as bad as Pixo but still, pretty bad. Zb and CSP have basically been my artistic bread and butter for years now. :\

Don't Upgrade. I am still using a version of Photoshop from the late 90's, because it predates the subscription model. If you don't upgrade, you can still use it. You just miss out on technological advancement.

I'm not going to. Fuck Celsys. I'm probably gonna switch to Krita or AffinityPhoto. I also have Artrage and Rebelle.

A lot of folks above recommended Krita. I will give it a try, but I may return to my nefarious ways for other packages.

The only thing I really don't like about Krita is they have no mouse mode. :\ I hate drawing in pen mode.

Well, apparently I'm one of the 1% of freaks on the planet who prefer drawing with the tablet set to mouse mode. I hate moving my hand allover the place. But I guess I'll just have to deal with it. As far as I'm concerned, giving into corporate nickel and diming is not an option.
