Good morning, everyone.
I thought I'd finally take some time to write out my thoughts and feelings surrounding any and all future projects in regards to Dick-A-Day or Genital Commissions.
In short, currently I do not think it is in my best interest to take on any commissions in regard to genitals until I figure out if it is in my best interest as a business.
While I get asked weekly if I am open to either drawing a reference sheet of or conceptualizing a character's genitals, I regretfully have to decline.
Not that I want to. They are some of my most fun commission projects. I absolutely love working on them and helping someone flesh out a character is such a honor.
I want to take each and every single one of them on. But, I'm at a crossroads on if that is even possible for me to do anymore.
For a while now, I've been thinking of dipping my toes in to the sex toy industry.
I've made jokes about it over the years. About how I'd wanted to make a dildo of my main satyr's dick as there was no high-quality ones on the market at the time.
I bought a cheaply made dildo with similar attributes that I found one day and I've had it as a bit of a statement piece to inspire me to someday replace it with something better.
Something of my own that I could be proud of having created.
Or, at least, having helped to create.
As while I would like to be a part of the sex toy industry, I also am not sure if I want to simply be a concept artist, or if I want to get my hands dirty with silicone.
Either way, I get into a sort of weird legal gray-area when it comes to designing genitals for myself to be sold and designs I make for others not to be sold.
Mostly, I'm worried about copyright issues as well as any potential accusations of theft.
I've drawn a lot of dicks, you guys.
I've drawn and concepted and sketched out well over 50 unique genital ideas and I still have unique ideas ready to be put to paper.
But, logically, I also know themes tend to overlap and I am deeply afraid of someone thinking I stole their design to be sold for profit, just because I may draw an attribute that I had also drawn on their genital design and overlap something similar in a whole new design. In example, if I drew a flared glans shape, or a knot, or a medial ring that is somewhat similar to another client that is now being displayed as something I'd make for a dildo, I do not want to be accused of theft.
I've drawn a few genital commissions since I've made the decision and choice to want to join the sex toy industry.
Perhaps, as a bit of a trial test. I've opened up to them about my thoughts and feelings about my new lofty goals. We've shaken hands and worked things out on good faith practices. But, opening up genital commissions to the open public is a different thing entirely. One which I think I would actually need to sit down with someone that knows the legal side of business more intimately than I do.
So, until then, I'm not taking on any more genital commissions.
As I want to make sure I'm completely safe to do both, and if not, at least I'll for sure know and make appropriate decisions with those facts.
In the meantime, thank you to everyone that has reached out asking for genital commissions.
For people to come to me to design something because they like the way I design genitals is one of the most motivating factors in my first steps towards my dream.
I wouldn't be making these choices and starting to move forward without that firm shove and momentum.
So truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.
I haven't quite yet decided if I want to work with silicone myself or leave it up to those more knowledgable about it.
I wouldn't mind just doing concepting, 3D modeling and printing them out for someone to then take those and make some beautiful pours of them.
I'm doing things in baby steps and making choices as I go along.
Originally, I was thinking of selling dick-a-day designs as a sort of fundraiser for a 3D printer to start. But. I wouldn't do that if legally it would be unwise. Even if I think it would be fun. Dicks for dicks.
Could see dicks for dicks working out if it were strictly for already existing designs people have for their character's bits, but yeah new designs would just bring you right back to the whole legal issue down the line.
And if you haven't already come across it, this wiki has a whole bunch of useful info on getting started with toy making as well as advice for selling/creating designs: https://onlygoblins.cloud.xwiki.com.....ew/Main/About/ ! (It's still a fairly new wiki that's being put together by the toy maker community, hence the awkward URL too lol.)
okes aside, I totally understand and I hope your sextoy adventures goes fantastic!!!
So, it is not like my gallery here or Twitter is dead. Just expanding. :)
