Question about my animations
Does me compressing my animated gifs ruin your enjoyment of looking at the animation? Is there a place where you'd prefer to look at them instead?
Just something I've been feeling kinda insecure about hah. Everytime I see my animations all crusty/static-y with the framerates and colors messed up, it looks like I'm looking at a videogame cutscene from the 90s or something :'D
I try to link my Twitter posts on every animation I have so you can see what the real quality actually looks like, but I know not everyone reads or clicks links.
I also post higher quality gifs on DA and video reels on Instagram, but I dont think a lot of FA people have that :'D
I really wish FA could have a video uploader or at least a higher file size limit (for higher quality gifs) but I know that might not be for another 10-20 years knowing this sites track record lol.

I don't blame you for doing what you can to get them onto the site, but it is a shame we can't view the full quality ;;
I actually haven't thought of that, but yeah I think that can be a pretty good archive place for it! I do upload them on drive, but that's mainly so I can send them to clients.
I agree with keeping the best version yourself (and for the commissioner, perhaps a "personal" and "web" version), and not worrying about the compression. Perhaps upload to Box or other file storage services if you want to put the full versions somewhere.
Yeah basically the ones that are more detailed tend to be more crusty and compressed cause they have more gradients and colors. That's why most web animators tend to stick with flat colors, but I just like the aesthetic of the more anime/film look xD
I think that's a good solution though! Atm there aren't a lot of good places for high quality video sharing (that's not like YouTube/TikTok or whatev xD)
But I know that a lot of people have problems with tumblr since the NSFW nuke. All I can say, is that I'm still enjoying it and the gif sets.
Side note: They have started experimenting with compressing _some_ gifs into mp4's on pages with lots of gifs (like search and explore, to speed them up, and have people with data plans suffer less). But after feedback they said they wanna add a toggle for that too.
I agree that gifs are pretty easy to post there, but yeah there aren't many people left other than niche groups.
You mean on FA? I know they're trying to add more features, but it's been such slow progress I just keep losing hope lol |D
But the side note was related to Tumblr, actually. Sorry about the confusion
Not as widely supported as gifs, but at least supported by every major modern web browser, and falls back to a static image if the viewing program supports png, but not apng.
Typically compresses better than gif, and supports millions of colors + proper transparency, so you should get a lot less dithering. Also supports more framerates than gif, I think.
Though admittedly it ended up more crusty than my gifs :'D (though i dont know if thats more fault of the program I'm using (CSP) ) so I kinda reverted back to my gifs
I also tried to use EZgif, which usually converts higher quality stuff, and while it did turn out looking much nicer, the file sizes were too large. ):
But I'll definitely try to experiment with this more now that I know this though xD Thank again!
