Thank You for Support!

**RAWR!** Orange T-Rex has something to say!
Now, I seriously want to give HUGE thanks to
Zergal101 and
JohnathonDH for buying me a LOT of coffee. I absolutely didn't expect that in the SLIGHTEST. And even though I wasn't asking for money in that tweet (but for tips/ideas), know that I am always EXTREMELY grateful and happy for any support, especially so BIG, wow. That honestly cheered me up a LOT. Made my days a lot brighter despite the pain. It makes me consider reviving my ko-fi page. I always appreciate your support.
I hope I can start earning money via commissions soon, but RN I still don't feel for it. The lack of any interest in commissioning me demotivated me a lot. I need to get my confidence back somehow. There's so much I want to reach. I am getting close to having 1000 followers on Twitter, still a little far (still haven't been at 900 at the time of writing) and on FA as well. My main goal is just having a good stable income in the community, but I learned the hard way that it's difficult, especially with my mentality of freaking out a lot. And one of my BIG goals is also purchasing an animation course with a pro dragon rig and learning to animate dragons. I do hope it can help me get better and grow in the future. I can't wait to the moment when I start doing that, but the course together with rig costs over 1000 dollars, so I guess I gotta wait till I can get to the point when I can afford it. And there’s also problem with my weak PC graphics card. I can't afford to spend money without being sure that it won't hurt me, especially when, again, I can't even work after surgery and I'm not even drawing either and I've been spending some money on medicine, surgery and food. But again, those 2 donations were GOLD! I'm so happy for them. :) Maybe I can get more confident with goals on ko-fi lol.
Anyway, that’s what I wanted to say. Love y’all <3

I am so happy that we were able to help.^^ Hopefully when you are able to make commissions again and they are posted on the site, more people will flock to you for some art. Honestly, my home system wouldn't be able to handle animating either, especually with a 2gb gt 1030, so let's hope we can get you a good gpu fast. Until then, I wish you a speedy recovery. :)

OP
I got 1060 and even though it lets me animate, I aim a little higher - rendering. Plus, some software I work with run pretty slow. So, new GC would help in many ways than one.

Well, good thing the rtx 4090 and 4080 were revealed today. Going to make the used gpu market prices plummet as the lineup gets released, hopefully. I am guessing GC means general computer, so I hope the other companies get to their own new releases soon, so the other components can get a price decrease as well.

Wait, were they??!? I didn't hear about it! I planned to get 3050 or 3060, but if price drops for 3080/90, I might reconsider them!

Revealed about 7 hours ago or so. Releases in October, and the other gpus should release at some point next year. And since crypto crashed, most gpus are at least close to msrp now. Can't imagine how low the prices will go when your financially ready, but at least it will finally be manageable. ^^

Just realized that when you said GC you meant Graphics Card, not General Computer. XD

Ooops, I should have written gpu. But I thought GC (graphics card) would make sense in the context.

JohnathonDH
~johnathondh
Yeah, haven't seen that abbreviation in a while, usually see them called GPUs, so I got confused about what it could mean. XD I do agree with looking into the higher end GPUS though, especially since the 3050 and 3060 are still significantly above msrp, and if the prices become like the 2000 series are now, you could get the 3080 for a 3-400 bucks, though that's with the pricing in America, so I don't know what it's like where you live. Still, great potential if things go well.

Seems that 2060 costs the same as 3060 (what a bummer). 3080 is around 900 euro. 3090 over a thousand, 1,5K euro. If 3080 could drop to around 400, at worst 500, I'll certainly consider that, but honestly, I don't need a beast. I'm sure 3060 would do more than enough as well.

Well, it's still a long ways away until you can consider investing in a new card, so we will have time to see how prices change as the 4000 series releases. Another thing to consider with a new card is power consumption, so if your power supply isn't able to handle the increase of power consumption, then it will cost even more to get the card due to buying a new PSU to handle it.

When you do seriously shop for graphics cards I can give some help with that. I managed to secure a 3080Ti during the peak of the shortage without paying a scalper. Prices are starting to come down and hopefully the 4000 series will make the 3080 and 3090 that much cheaper.

I'll see what I can do. I certainly want a better gpu, but I'm not a PC expert and IDK if I will also need a new motherboard. I run zbrush, 3ds max and Maya and IDK if performance is dependent on gpu or motherboard. Hope it's the former. If so, I'll certainly try to get a better one.

I used to build PCs for a hobby and built my current one from scratch.

Sheryno

OP
Not me. I bought it built already. And will probably get my gpu replaced if I see I can't do it myself. I know sometimes some kind of thermal paste is used, I think?

JohnathonDH
~johnathondh
Motherboards will do nothing in terms of performance. Unless you need your cpu to run a little faster with overclocking, or a faster connection between the cpu or gpu with PCI 4.0, which has little to no current performance impacts on current applications, including maya, I don't think it would be worth it. Plus, a new motherboard would likely require a new cpu, and even new RAM, or memory sticks, which would up the cost of the computer significantly. I don't have too much experience with building computers, because covid happened before a final I was supposed to have in building a computer, but I have switched GPUs and added ram sticks to my computer, so a little experience is better than nothing.

OP
Ah OK, only gpu then. All I hope is I won't need to buy anything else for PC because of new gpu. Ya know, like that PC can't handle powerful gpu, so I would need more stuff.

JohnathonDH
~johnathondh
GPU's can bottleneck a system, run too slow compared to the other parts of the computer, but with an upgrade it should make it better, especially with the rendering you want to do with it. Also, don't stress with switching out the GPU, it should be relatively simple. With mine I just had to unclamp it from the motherboard, pull it out, and place the new one in and clamp it on. Computer building has gotten really simple over the years, so it should be easy enough. Though, you will have to connect some plugs from the internal power supply to the gpu to give it enough power to run, but that extra step shouldn't be too hard to handle. ^^

Sheryno
~sheryno
OP
What upgrade do you mean? You're saying gpu's can make PC slower?

JohnathonDH
~johnathondh
Sorry if my explanation is a little confusing. Let's just say that the CPU and GPU work together, and if the CPU has to wait for the GPU to finish something, then the GPU is too slow to keep up, aka the bottleneck. The bottleneck can be any component of the computer, and identifying it is the best way to understand what is best to upgrade, and considering you are planning to render, the GPU would be what you need to upgrade, as GPU rendering needs all the GPU power it can get. I hope this explains things in a more coherent way.

Sheryno
~sheryno
OP
Ah, alright, so you're saying that GPU's power is very important because it mostly decides if PC is or is not gonna be slow, regarless of how powerful CPU is, because it has to wait for GPU? Is that correct?

ArchTeryx
!archteryx
Right. It depends on what you are asking the computer to do. The GPU is like a specialized CPU that runs a lot of calculations really fast. When you are doing graphic work like rendering the GPU handles most of the load. If it is slower than the CPU the computer will bog down.

JohnathonDH
~johnathondh
Yeah, like ArchTeryx said. The GPU handles all the graphic calculations, of which since rendering is the workload of concern, your GPU is what is slowing down your computer. If you upgrade any other part of the system, no change in performance will be found, as it's waiting for the GPU even more now. So, the GPU is the only component that will need upgrading, so don't worry about the other parts of the computer for when you get to GPU shopping someday. :)

Alrighty. Thank you for advice, both of ya ;)

Well, for whatever it is worth, I definitely still want to do some work with you. My lack of commissions right now was just to give you a nice break. (And because I have to save money badly for a giant expense coming soon). I've missed hearing from you, nice T. rex and I hope to talk to you again soon! *HUG*
