The furry fandom is deep rooted in lgbtq+ all because a gay couple Mark Merlino and Rod 'O Riley started it as a means of escapism and replacement for boring humanoid aliens. The term furry may have been coined by a straight man but the fanatacism is purely queer coated.

Most furries are lgbt because most other fandoms are full of toxic masculinity but furries are not usually.

Just imagine, you go to school being a teenager. Most likely in the 2000's. People hate you for being gay. Parents don't know. So you come home to your MySpace emo gay furry group where people treat you nice.

The fandom doesn't appeal to straight people as much. Anime dogs won't.

There was a time where furries may have been prodimenantaly white straight men or more diverse in thought. There are still anti lgbt, and racist, right wing furry fans. This time is no more.

But it's mostly because lion boys are so cute! They could turn a straight man bi.
