Pet Peeves (NFSW, WIP)

General
Having spent a few years lurking, one thing I've noticed about art of big dicks & balls is just how little of it is even remotely convincing. As someone who owns a penis and has seen many more, most depictions are just silly. Simply complaining is unhelpful however, so I've created this journal to provide specific examples of common issues and offer suggestions for improvement! While I'll do my best to be objective, I understand that not everyone needs big pp drawings to be realistic in order to find them gratifying. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if I am in the minority there. I also understand that the whole premise of a knee-length dick is already pretty unrealistic. Naturally, some suspension of disbelief is required to engage with the concept at all; these are just where my personal limit is. Also keep in mind that these are for humanoid genitalia. With all that out of the way, here are some of my pet peeves! (WIP)
#1: Blimp dicks
This is probably the most common issue I see. It is very rare for the girth of a real penis to vary significantly along its length. Natural penis growth is caused by the extra blood pressure during erection, meaning that the whole penis grows at virtually the same rate. In other words, the ratio between girth at the base, girth at the widest point, and girth at the head should be near 1. Anything over 2 is basically a deformity.
Here are a couple of examples of this issue: A B. In both examples, the widest point of the shaft is 2-3 times wider than the narrowest point. Here is an excellent example of (imo) the right way to do it.
#2: Silly veins
Less is more!
#3 Sharp veins
Fluid dynamics 101
#4 Static foreskin
This sounds super obvious, but it's still a common faux pas so here goes. The foreskin is part of the skin of the penis shaft. While attached just behind the head, it can (and usually does) cover the head to some extent due to it to being longer than the shaft. Essentially, foreskin is just shaft skin doubled over on itself. Shaft skin is stretchy, but stretching requires force. Therefore, as the shaft expands with blood, the skin around it will shift before it stretches. Depending on how much foreskin there is to take up the slack, there may be no stretch at all even once the shaft reaches its full size (in which case the head remains partially covered), or the head may be fully exposed before the shaft reaches its full size. Both are fully realistic along with everything in between. What isn't realistic (or really physically possible) is for the foreskin to not move at all between flaccid and hard.
#5 Hard softies
#6 soft hardies
#7 Helium dicks
#8 Cylinder dicks
