The House of Representatives in America passed its version of the health care reform bill. The senate will be next up and we'll get a finalized version that'd be passed into law. This is a good thing because we're another step closer to some real and needed reform.
ah okies .. well unfortionatly i dont really pay much attention to the gov stuff .. ive tried to but i have so much trouble trying to follow it from one day to the next
Isn't that the one that got Obama all the negative publicity and communist remarks? Or am I thinking something else? *Lil detached from American Politics sometimes, being Canadian.*
Obama's being called a communist because he's proving how full of shit, anger, selfishness, and racism the right wing is. It's just their way of not outright calling him a nigger in front of cameras because they cannot stand how for America he is and how bipartisan he is. They WISH he was actually a hugely lefty liberal, then they wouldn't have to much up so much bullshit and spout all their whackjob conspiracies. But I think over all they're most pissed because they can't swallow their pride and accept it was their precious George Dubya Bush who is to blame for so much that is broken in America right now and that they lost all their federal power.
Pretty much not telling me anything I didn't know.. But I bet venting that feels good too. X3 Obama's health care plan is similar to what Canadians enjoy so it's kind of funny to see Americans spouting their mouth off about how they don't wanna pay the expense for other's health care, believing it to not be in their own best interest.
Obama's overall plan is an insurance exchange with a federally run and owned public option to compete against private insurers, among a lot of other measures to control costs and ensure care is of good quality and guaranteed. I was under the impression Canada had a much different system ]:8. I thought you were single-payer? Or something more fully government run?
single.. payer? o.o;
Basic health care needs, including checkups, surgeries, and emergencies are met with tax money. Other health care such as prescriptions, dental and cosmetic are not covered but the former two are covered by work benefits etc, of course, and certain prescriptions when approved can be funded by government. I used to work for a pharmaceutical branch of the government that was used to approve pharmaceutical funding for patients. I have heard of some cosmetic surgeries being funded as well but it's few and far between.
You do have to apply for a health care card based on the province you are in, and usually there is a small fee associated with it. I used to have a Newfoundland MCP now I have an Alberta health care card. the Alberta health care used to have annual charges but I think they've since dropped that.
Yeah, America's plan isn't even close to that. Yet, repubs and conservatives keep on saying the government is taking over health care. I fucking hate them cuz I'm sick of their lies, bullshit, and conspiracy theories.
I think tomorrow I'm going to write out a letter and chain it by snail mail to all 100 senators. They need to know, above all else, that they're congressmen for the sole purpose of bettering this country, providing for the people, and upholding the constitution. They need to understand that no one has the clairvoyance to ensure the final bill will work as well as we hope or if it will work at all, but we DO know what will happen if nothing is done or if we give in to the special interests and lobbyists and pass a weak, worthless bill. They need to put aside all political agendas and allegiances and do everything they possibly can to ensure the bill is as strong and robust as possible right from the getgo, that improvements and changes can be made as necessary over time, and that America needs health care reform 30 years ago and we're long overdo.
It's a shame no one seems to have made that clear, yet. It's all the same talking points that no one on either side is being swayed by. It's time to be clear and focused and not just bipartisan but to hold the needs of America and its people at heart.
I keep my eyes on things. Kind of have to. You're stupid not to.

Not sure if that answers your question.
