I honestly find it funny that people are freaking out cause 90% of Twitter staff was fired, and it was the ones who didn't want to work. Like the world, Twitter goes on.

The thing is you're right, nothing will happen short term. The problem is the sheer number of people that have left Twitter, if/when a problem happens on the backend, there genuinely may not be anyone around to fix it in a timely fashion, if at all depending on the truthfulness of the rumors I've heard regarding Twitter's infrastructure.

It doesn't hurt to diversify the portfolio.

I think if anything what we should be taking away from all this is that it's a bad idea to put one's online social space entirely into the hands of one website/company.

Twitter is of no value to humanity, so hopefully it will simply go down and never come back up. I wish I had 50 billion dollars to ruin a company I hated too.

Under the current amount of political pressure, it might . In any other situation where a company is allowed to restructure and be treated like any other corporation that merges with another company or closes down, it purely depends on the staff he has left and the staff he brought over from his other companies to hold things afloat.

However.... I did the general math. Firing 7k employees assuming salaries are all similar to coastal engineering or HR salaries, he is "saving" at least 1.2 billion per year. However, if we take his word that twitter is in the red for 4 million a day, then he would still have a general yearly deficit of around 300 million as things currently stand.

Firing thousands of employees may be atypical for a silicon valley style tech company, but it is normal for massive corporations doing just as massive mergers.

If you fire every employee you'd save even more! What a value!

Time will tell, but I am doubting it will stay up for long : the sheer amount of users means it probably needs lots of hidden systems and engineers to make it work for everyone, and since everyone left I'm not sure who will fix it if it breaks :>

Also I think someone being allowed to throw 44bil dollars into a fire pit + firing thousands with no consequences, is more crazy than people losing their mind over the death of a social platform but that's just my opinion
