Sorry for taking a while to respond, I didn’t see these journal comments until just now.

Previously, FA would downscale images until their longest edge was under 1280px, but would let you upload at full res if you edited/reuploaded the image.

After this new update, images have a pixel budget. The maximum resolution is 1919x1919 for a square image for free users, or 2880x2880 for paid users. At least longer dimensions are possible as long as you’re under the 3.6M total pixel count, I guess, but for both free and paid users, this is a massive downgrade from the previous true limit of 10MB.

This is a ridiculous change, as a 1mb 1000x1000 image costs exactly $0 more to host than a 1mb 5000x5000 image.

What a bunch of crap! I (Along with many, many more artists) don't have the money to afford FA+! What the hell, FA staff?

Yeah, and even if most people could/would sign up for FA+, there are a good number of comics for which FA+’s slightly higher limit still wouldn’t be enough.
