One cannot change how others act, but we can always be the better person. Loyalty should always be tempered by a well-formed conscience. But a good friend who has earned our loyalty, they are not abusive but generous and loyal to you as well.

People can be loyal back, but it doesn't stop the feeling of being used when helping someone who then gives nothing but criticism in return. Just some real life stuff I've been dealing with.
