I mean it IS an unfair system. Twitter decides who deserves to be on everyones tl and who not (shadowbanning etc.). It's just gonna get worse from now on

Welcome to social media. Honestly it does suck a lot. I admit it can be disappointing to not get as many likes on something that you worked so hard for. But if I have to be honest, I don’t really feel like the amount of likes doesn’t really tell me how talented someone is, and numbers aren’t going to matter much in our lives anyways. I just keep doing what I enjoy and don’t give a shit about what people think of it

I’m technically a new artist and I’m more peeved at the people using the 8 dollars on a robot and claiming it as their own than actually us in it on smaller creators who ask for less…

None of that is true. Algorithmic supression has been some spooky boogeyman that folks blame for things that are honestly just luck. There is no such thing as supression or shadowbanning. You get more attention from bots that reply to specific words than you do some Big Brother trying ti hide you.
Twitter is entirely based on trying to post at peak hours and tagging your stuff to help it spread beyond follower circles, and mostly luck that people will see it on their timeline instead of hitting Home and scrolling straight to the top, or that it'll be freshly posted when someone does this.

Twitter is crap. Always has been. It's not likely to get any better at this point. And it's always been particularly crap where it comes to being a place for art.

To be fair, Twitter was never really meant to be anything like an art gallery site in the first place, I think.

Part of me thinks the lack of interaction also comes from serotonin overload. Have you ever spammed uploaded anything? That's kind of how twitter operates. It bombards the user with countless hours of content if you follow more than 100 people. Not a bad thing if you've been at work for 8 hours and need some time to kill, but eventually, the media kind of gets muddled with others if you spend a lot of time on it. The only cure for that is only spending a few minutes on it instead of hours

The way Twitter operates is why I miss Google+.

With G+ I was able to be part of many different communities and make posts specifically for those communities, and they would undoubtedly get +1'd and shared around if it was a big community you were posting to, and that's how you would grow.

With Twitter, the only way to really grow your presence is to tweet regularly and hope one of those tweets blows up, which may not ever happen if you're not on the platform every day.

I'm much less successful... didn't quite realize to what degree a failure I've been until recently. It was a kind of ego-death. I thought my time in the fandom meant something, but it doesn't. I couldn't make real friends. I couldn't attract eyeballs unless I just did porn. Maybe that works on the opposite end of the spectrum too. The massive number of likes and follows you receive... what does it afford you? Maybe it's safe to walk away from the fandom and social media whenever it gives you this feeling. You're not merely the sum of your output.
