It's always morbidly funny when politicians go on about how "small government" they are really for government interference and control. Take the abortion thing. No sooner was it considered a "state's rights issue" than some politicians decided a national ban would be great. This despite the fact that women are literally dying because they can't get access to abortions they need thanks to draconian state laws (this includes one woman forced to carry a corpse to term--the baby's head never formed but state laws forbade her aborting it).

It's always this way. The religious rights crowd will never be satisfied with anything less than total control and obedience, which they will then say is true freedom. Frankly it ends up sounding like something out of a mind control story. "Your true freedom is submitting your entire will to me, your loving Master, whom you will obey without question forever."
