I still need to play that game, Magical Vacation. I hear some folks made a Fan Translation. I loved the sequel, Magical Starsign! XD

I was really joking with the first question too. I know a big project like that, you still have a lot of work to do post-release, and you're probably trying not to think about what to make next. Still, I hope you make another game. Some folks make one game and they're satisfied, and don't do more. And you did spend a heck of a lot of years on this. XD

oh for sure, i've definitely got a lot of ideas for future games already! after i've taken time to recharge in the new year i'll likely start learning a new engine so that i'm not bound to a version of rpg maker from 2012 forever

I'm a big fan of Godot. I bet you could handle it. There's lots of great tutorials and things out there. It's sorta like the open source alternative to Unity, that is also pretty good for low-end computers, not just high end ones.

godot's definitely the one i'm leaning towards learning the most! actually in the final months of development i was already looking at godot tutorial videos lol. so it's probably either that or i just dust off the unity license i foolishly bought at age 20 and then barely did anything with

I'm not sure that Unity License would do anything though. Unity is 'free' but the free version forces you to have a Unity splash screen at the start of your game. The paid version doesn't operate on that license anymore, instead they have one of those modern subscription models where you have to pay for the dev kit regularly. I think they have a model like Unreal too, where you only have to pay royalties or whatever if the game makes a lot of money.

Godot is free open source software. It's already as good as anything else for 2D and the 3D is acceptable. With the new Godot 4.0 which is in the last stages of testing (and it's open source if you wanna test too) it's going to be on par with the others, or close to it. Plus from what I've heard from other devs, it's a lot more backwards compatible, so it might look as good on new systems, and folks shouldn't have to turn things down as much on older systems.

I also really love Godot's web publishing option. Being able to make web apps and games so easily is just wonderful.

I was first exposed to this 8 years ago because Gamergaters were mad about it. Congrats on the release!

Having this come out feels weirdly important to me. I first saw this game when I was a "Total not homophobic" edgy little teenager. I had the reaction you'd expect from the little bigoted shit I used to be.
After.... some personal stuff, I finally started being a somewhat decent human being and threw away all that garbage. I actually made friends, I started exploring my gender and sexuality, followed my passions, finally started my own game instead of just thinking about it.
Now I can look at this and really like it. I can really feel how much I've grown since then.
