Dwarf Fortress! :o

Earlier this month, time ceased to be relative as Dwarf Fortress finally dropped on Steam. For y'all who aren't aware Dwarf Fortress is the grandfather of colony sim games, and is legendary for its depth of simulation, generated lore, and the wildly complex and not exactly easy to understand controls. How difficult was this game to play until recently? Well, the non-steam edition uses ASCII as its 'graphics', aaaand the game had no mouse support. Yeah. Keyboard only.
Now though it's on steam in shiny pixel art form with new menus, mouse support and * le gasp * a tutorial!
I'd watched hundreds of hours of gameplay before, but now I've finally started dabbling myself. I've played for a dozen hours or so, and I'm having a blast!! I lost one fort to a game crash (well, technically the fort survived but I lost half an in game year of progress, so I just scrapped it rather than have to replay alllll that stuff again) and another to giant ravens, and with every new start I understand the game and how to work its systems a little better. It's a tonne of fun! :3
Have y'all played this game before? If not, I certainly recommend it if you enjoy games like Rimworld. And if so, tell me how you're enjoying the Steam version, and whether you've had any particularly awesome artefacts or devastating losses thus far!

FA+

"A fortress has breastworks." 😁
...Okay, actually I'm doing reasonably well. If "losing is fun," then this is a disaster.
What a time to have the signature that you do 🤣
Then she started ANOTHER fort in the same world, really bolstered her defences and readied her troops, and sure enough, he came again, and finally the third fort was able to hold him off. The most memorable part for me was that the damage the second fort's dwarves did carried over, so at the end of the eagle-man's super long description there was just "His tongue is gone." from where one particularly badass dwarf had ripped it out prior to dying.
I am hoping a lot of the mods that came out for the base game will become available for the steam version in one form or another.
Lots of fun, Good amount of Variety, Devs have a transparent road map and actively seek/listen to their base.
I like it because I a settlement run takes roughly 2 hours to complete with the ability to pause when you need to.
I tried Rimworld but couldnt get into it, yet. More of a Civ V man myself
And wooo, Civ V! I was never a 'serious' player but I still chalked up several hundred hours in that game, very fun. :3
