Honestly, I had no idea a lawsuit was even in the works.

There's a lot of copyrighted art in the dataset, including some from our community because of deviantart with no compensation for the artists. If it wasn't going to be a class action of individual artists I'm sure Disney, Nintendo, Universal, Paramount, Sony, or any number of entertainment companies would have something to say.

Oh no, I get that. Though with groups like Disney, I am not 100% sure they would care. (Nintendo probably would). then again, I'm not one of these companies.
Considering how new AI art is, it would be something that the courts will need to decide upon.

I just didn't know there was a lawsuit filed. If it goes to a court, I hope to have access to listen to it, because it has me very curious.

Disney will care very much, they're probably the most litigious studio in Hollywood. Especially in their mascot is used for nefarious purposes. Honestly my hope is that algorithmic disgorgement (FTC legal tool) will be used to erase the data sets collected unethically and that the companies will have to start from scratch using only public domain content.

There are also private medical photos and illegal content in the datasets for icing on the cake. More than likely we'll just be able to see transcripts as most trials aren't televised.

I'm reminded of an old "adult" comic that was found when my extended family was cleaning out an old property. The title character was "Mickey Rat", and he was a barely disguised, dirty version of the mouse. I seem to remember him drinking, smoking, and being sex obsessed.
