I Don't Get It.

I see a lot of good works out there where artists don't sign their names, or if their names are missing.
Can someone explain why this is?
It's annoying, because I wanna know who it was who made the art.

... And then lots of artists have changed names, deleted their accounts or art, etc...
"yay, I found that artist's site I've been looking for so long... damn, they haven't been active in years. :("
2: Imagine trying to call everyone by their facial features instead of names. Now remove that identifier two steps further by calling them by something intangible with infinite variations within its scope.
Outside of a hivemind, names serve a somewhat important purpose. If you don't want to be 'that anonymous guy who does X that looks like Y', then it's a good idea to put your name—not some stupid symbol or incomprehensible monogram—on your work. Relying on popularity to achieve popularity only works if you're already popular.
You, Driprat, Catmonkshiro, Flinters, RGibson, and a few others.
Kind of annoyed me/offended me as someone who's very protective of the time I spent on my work, and had my stuff traced over/stolen. It wouldn't matter if my art was good or bad, I'd rather have people trace it back to me so I can prove I did it.
Strangers seeing someone's art for the first time have no idea who the artist is!
Either that or they're lazy.
Old stuff from newsgroups are less likely to be widely posted, if at all, and harder to track down.
I'd suggest posting them on e6, maybe with a note saying that you're looking for the artist, and maybe someone will be able to attribute them. You'd be doing furry art history a favor.
We be living in some "Interesting" times, indeed. Good luck!
Or in some cases artists who have a similar style to another artist because that's who they primarily learned to art from.
now, 25 years later, name and fursona and many other things are still the same.
(I still have those lists, so if you need them to identify something ancient they might be helpful.)
Lately I've considered surreptitiously modifying the signatures on my early pics from my rl name to my nick, since the latter is better known.
(and current day internet is brimming with kooks <casts glance of suspicion at twitter>)
I guess honestly some of my pieces that I am somewhat proud of I haven't signed either because I don't think my signature is valuable, and I really haven't made it as an artist.
I suppose in short; i don't care xD. Maybe i'll do it again sometime if i happen to be in the mood!
I rarely find art there that's not signed. Well, sometimes it could be the art has been "borrowed" by someone else who cropped out the original signature. I usually don't sign my comic, because each episode is made of a few pages, and adding a signature to each one would look disruptive to the flow of the story, but I always sign individual drawings.
Now some artists go the opposite way and have an elaborate signature that takes like one-third of the image ( ¬ (oo) ¬ )
