So apparently it's become commonpractice already to charge money if you "want" to see stolen art work from some algorithm. Heck, I could swear I can make out some style elements I have seen done by real people.

Don't fret though, the AI itself is not gonna profit from anything, neither will you or I ~ but this person there does.
I have been thinking quite a bit about it lately. AI art defenders usually call it a "tool" without explaining what the tool is supposed to be for, then think they make a point by explaining how the theft works. Honest concerns are being met with either arrogance or willful ignorance.

I'm honestly sorry that I can't be a better person about this than I currently am, but I will move forward relentlessly blocking people, using -tags and blacklist features whenever I can. AI image generators are only able to function the way they do because our collective work has been fed into it against our will and consent, more often than not, even private information is being taken with zero ethical concerns whatsoever.
This deserves being banned, prohibited by law and erased. It's a technology for lazy people with ignorant intentions in the best case and harshly malicious ones in the worst case. It invites all the wrong people for all the wrong reasons.
Now, I'm not being very nice here, am I?
Well guess what, AI art defenders are not very nice either, it's nothing but an act. Explaining to people how exactly the theft works is not gonna convince me of anything. Theft remains theft. A soul- and heartless one at that, to make some nice lazy-ass money.
The sheer lack of any morale, basic decency to purchase a license, to simply ask or credit artists and other creators. The sheer lack of ANY sort of empathy from those who see AI as a good thing is utterly disgusting and should be ridiculed by anybody who still has a brain and think for a moment how these people are going about this.
And for the love of god, don't come at me with this "you can't stop progress" bullshit. I have seen a few people saying it like that, referring to computers. Well think again mate, you still need people to operate these computers in order for them to be useful.
Of all the old computer documentaries I have seen released since 1982, nobody ever had this attitude like the AI bros "get robbed sucker LOL".
I could go on and on raging about this, but the bottomline is that I have an idea about why I just can't find any convincing point in favor of AI: it's very likely because these people know very well deep down that what they are doing is shady as shit.

FA+

You will never see me use AI art ever
Especially as it incorporates theft which i heavily disprove of
That being said, I'm curious what your opinion is if there would be image generators trained exclusively on consensually approved artworks? Be it either through crediting, paying the artists or whatever way the artists agrees to.
We would have actively given consent, reward or compensation and best of all: transparency and respect towards who provide material for the machine learning. From what I gathered so far is that the controversy around this only sparked up because the researches pulled in all sorts of ressources, sometimes private information as well, to feed into their AI.
There was even an incident where they produced an image and didn't even credit the programmer who created the algorithm in the first place.
I'd even react differently if there was a required marking for ai generated imagery, or a whole new dedicated place where enthusiasts for this sort of thing can gather without getting constantly mixed up in legit art communities.
The technology iteself is one thing, but it certainly matter how the people who propagate it are going about it, which I find at the very least just as bothersome.
And yeah, I know the general stance FA has taken and I fully support it, thank god I am not exposed to it here.
I didn't want to include it in the journal because I have a tendency to write effing novels anyway, but when the reality is that's not going to go away, then AI art just needs its own dedicated places where the enthusiasts can gather.
And as far as DA goes, I just have to swing the ban-hammer because I REALLY don't want to constantly play the sorting game just so I can actually enjoy real art by real people.
on the condition thats its used right
i have not seen it used right once
also dont expect it to be used right
its a shame
wish people could stop being people sometimes
That DA profile I linked there shows perfectly what I mean when I say people go into this for all the wrong reasons and motivations. Acting all nice and shiny while demanding money in order for us to get access to randomly generated things the person didn't create on their own. It's ludicrous.
i just know i have never seen a way that can be seen as the right way to use it
although the ai itself is not the problem but all the things and uses it enable is
since if the only thing people used it for was take their own creations to feed into it and share stuff with it would not have been a problem since it would have been their stuff to begin with anyway
or stuff like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuNizg-HSnE&ab_channel=demonflyingfox (honestly if that was a movie i would watch it)
people just insist being the worst with it because its too easy
so easy infact that all the good it could and might have done most like will not get to be as nobody might even be able to imagine what that would have been anylonger
the positives that could have been is most likely already crashed and burned
the only thing i can think about it is it has all become a big turd i dont want to be part of nor want to be made bigger so i cant avoid it
