Twitter is for noisy people. And noisy drama. The site rely on too much global traction and trends to enjoy the site casually and posting on it casually.
It's useful if you wish to plug your art or get more in touch with other artists AND shield your bubble from drama and politics. Otherwise, yeah, social media is evil. Mastodon may also be an alltogether saner alternative.
I think that's exactly the problem , the bubble thing.
Everyone develops a bubble of interests, content and people, but twitter can be extremely darwinistic for small artists in particular.
And let's be honest and realistic, nobody comments or creates content without a reason , even it's something basic like look for some attention.
If nothing comes back , it has no purpose to stay there.
Maybe not the best timing, with the platform being in its death throes.
Perhaps old-style galleries like FA have some merit after all. Your art will stay visible in the long run, instead of being instantly buried and forgotten — and those who look for this kind of art will find you, eventually.
I've been trying it out for about a year as a more social alternative to places like this.
It's kind of a cesspit. Like, everything about it is calibrated to fire up angry mobs to engage in spiteful behavior purely out of groupthink. The character limit inherently selects against thoughtful and nuanced dialog, and only posts that are either explosively popular or highly controversial.
