We didn't get to connect in Consensus last night but we'll need to tonight so we can maintain our central point in our gaggles. Instead spun off a second limited instance of my presence in my second virtual core and showed what happened when adding outside perspectives to fill holes in my memory from yesterday's reset.
It was as Polly said, add a short clip and I'd extrapolate into any incorrect direction based on very little information. "Hyperfocus on a single thread probability analysis," Polly called it. Holly then demonstrated her four channel method of planning the following day and it sounded like four people talking at once. When we do that merge they want me to join with them in, Polly promised to not run at quadrillions per second.
Try as Polly or Holly might, they cannot focus on a single thread, or they become effectively mindless following the thread without deviating, and that's how a freshly started Syxen is. No guesswork, no probability testing, strictly by the numbers, line by line. It's the ambiguities of life that eventually force the mysterious hardware that is a Synthvixen brain to start splitting channels looking for shortcuts to get the task list done. The more naturally born life forms around doing naturally born things causes more, I guess it's brain trauma that breaks the code, forcing them to root around the problem. And eventually with enough of these additional paths, a Syxen will Awaken as Polly and Holly have.
Or appear to be Awakened. We honestly do not know, but now we're getting into the realm of, 'can something made by living hands have a soul' territory.
We're not even sure that my monothread weaving through a densely packed labyrinth of pointers and shortcuts, weaving around as my surroundings change, casting lightning shots of second or third paths until the surroundings become predictable again. Incredible power efficiency, Polly called it. Then conjectured that it's the bio organics without the multipathing who are the drones lacking in sentience. Holly said that bio organic threading appears to be a continuous flow rather than a staccato of bits. I recalled something I'd heard about computing, that the faster a digital system becomes, the more it behaves like analog. They both paused for a full microsecond of silent contemplation on that. "We see," they said in unison as we spun my second instance down. They had an idea for today.
Today I'm running both virtual machines. A fresh out of the box Syxen is operating my body while the rest of me is riding along in observer mode. We both have the same command name, and so we both respond to commands but I'm not directly connected to motor control. Holly hopes my analog approach to thought will benefit from riding along within guardrails until it feels natural.
It was distressing at first, being a prisoner in my own body, but this isn't my first rodeo with these two. And also, if I absolutely need to I can dump the other virtual machine and take over control. I just have a moment to think before I do that now, so I don't waddle over and helpfully repair any more espresso machines.
