I just now realized that the default setting for the searchbar is only submissions from the past 5 years, and that you can changet hat not only in advanced search but in the global site settings.
This was driving me absolutely up a wall this whole past couple days I've been organizing my gallery folders. I kept searching for specific pieces that I KNEW I did, having them not show up... is it cause they're in scraps? No scraps show up fine... is it because its in the title not the descrition? No, putting in to search the title field didn't work...
As always you figure stuff out the moment you don't really need it anymore lol. I also today found that FA added submission footers, and my saved template for submission descriptions. AFTER I had already manually put them in on the last like 10 posts lol.

yeah i figured id make a journal in case anyone else was running into the same issue and hadnt noticed the setting

Ahhh, yeah, it's annoying. I didn't know there was a site setting to disable that. *looks* :O I do remember when they announced the change though. It was because people were complaining about it being too hard to find newer things with all the old stuff from over 15 years ago constantly coming up too.
Yes but that makes it so hard to find old things, lol. In "global site settings" under the gear dropdown, if you scroll all the way down to the bottom its in the last category "search settings." My eyes tend to glaze over when settings pages are more than a few lines per category.

I don't recall the advanced search options even being visible before but maybe i just never needed them. A lot of art sites have pretty archaic coding. I'm very happy with the small QoL improvement of the submission footer, so hopefully the administration is trying to improve things bit by bit.
