Rant - False Positives vs Anti AI Art
I'm indifferent to AI art. It has it's uses, and regardless of your opinions on if it should exist or not, it's here now so might as well make use of it.
I don't think it's going to destroy professional artists in the same way Daz Studio and Poser didn't destroy art. And just like those programs, there are those who would rather refine their computer generated works than learn how to draw digitally or traditionally. Hell, I vaguely remember a time when digital art was not considered real art because the computer was seen as doing most of the work.
But broadly speaking, the anti-AI people have the same problem as environmentalists in that any point they might have had is undermined by being arseholes about it. In the case of anti-AI people, it's shitting on the work of real artists for being too AI like. If you suck at drawing hands then expect anything you make dismissed as AI because only AI suck at drawing hands. I recently shared a pic I found with a friend, but he immediately dismissed as AI because it had an extreme pose/camera angle, which is apparently something only AI does.
And that's the problem. The people who are anti AI art claim to be anti-AI in order to protect artists, but they're the only ones I see getting mad at real artists.
I also find AI has it's uses. I know this opinion is heresy to anti AI people. Sometimes it can be handy to throw strange combinations of ideas at it to see what comes through, but it's also handy for making NPC portraits for RPGs when I don't want to use a stock icon. In the past I'd just use images from google images or Deviant Art, both of which are considered "art theft" by the same people that throw a tantrum about AI.
