well yeah but from what I heard, they're targeting only art that has characters who look like children but are acting as kids doing NSFW stuff. So they're not going around to mass ban people, they're just making sure some characters that look cute but are doing NSFW stuff aren't exactly children
Yeah, that's my understanding of it too. Until the letter of the law is thoroughly redressed, though, it's got a lot of room for bad faith abuse, and that's why people continue to rail.
I'm just holding on and keeping my ear to the ground. I think I'll be fine, but I have my stuff partially backed up, just in case.
There's a head height chart making the rounds on Discord. That's not just simply making sure those characters are children, that's strictly enforcing rules on artstyles and character proportions. If the ratio isn't 8:1, it's in violation. Which means no funny animal, kemono, chibi or other heavily stylized designs, no variance in height, no species that are naturally shorter like kobolds or Avali, etc.
And they're being pretty broad about what kinds of scenarios can be considered in violation. They didn't specify NSFW, they simply specified "sexual scenarios" - that could be anything from hardcore yiff all the way to something as innocuous as a silly, non-sexualized TF piece.
The one thing they said that does help de-escalate the situation is that they're only going to go after reports. But that creates a new problem - because the rules are so broad and encompassing and are based on moderator interpretation alone, the potential for abuse and weaponization of the new policy is MASSIVE.
Yeah, the rules might -seem- fine so long as you do not think about them.
But you have to consider it from the perspective of the person looking to find something they don't like. Think of the worst-faith interpretation of these rules - because those are the people who are reporting things, and might be the ones judging your submission. Think of the most ridiculous argument you've ever seen, and now imagine the person making submitting a ticket about your character... Can you honestly say you are going to be fine?
It's no so much about mass bans, which is unlikely. Rather, it's about how this site will no longer be a place where you can in confidence post a lot of furry art
Not to mention that because it's down to moderator interpretation alone, enforcement itself is going to end up being extremely selective. Dragoneer himself had art that was blatantly in violation of even the old policies, yet was able to keep it up until he got mass reported for it less than a day ago. And yet other people here are getting flagged left and right for just having a cute artstyle and drawing mild kink art.
I don't even make anything truly NSFW (just silly art that could potentially fall under the category of "kink" art) but I'm worried that a couple of my characters are going to get me in trouble solely because of this 8:1 head ratio nonsense that's been going around: https://twitter.com/echoenbatbat/st.....189504/photo/1
I've already checked, and my unambiguously adult shaymin anthro still fails this proportion test simply because she's short.
