The policy is entirely about underage characters engaged in sexual acts or being associated with sexual activity.

So you can have as many pokemon, digimon, koopa and yoshis as you like. You can even have them engaged in porn if you like.

But if the pokemon, digimon, koopa or yoshi is drawn to suggest that they are a child, then you're going to have a hard time.

Artists have been explicitly told by Mods that if you draw these chars in their actual canon style you will be banned, so yeah, that's pretty much banning the characters.

The issue is that FA have been awful about clarification and we've just been told that anything short and cute is now on the chopping block. This is a problem because FAs moderation team ban first and ask questions later.

The real problem here is not necessarily the rule - it is the vaguery they're piling on by mentioning "childlike proportions" and saying stuff like "This Pikachu is okay, but this one is too cute and looks childlike, so it needs to go," coupled with a history of inconsistent application of these rules by mods.

Personally I think a lot of the outrage is an overreaction to the policy, which is pretty normal for the users of this website.

3. People calm down/forget and return

There might be questionable things with this policy but I feel they'll get ironed out if there are any real issues. FA doesn't want to push users away - that wouldn't really make sense.

It is not that easy this time. I never had that much "leaving fa" and "I'll delete my content" journals. Also I don't know if you are active on Discord but the furaffinity group there showcases more than the usual drama.

Sorry, this is worse than before. Now the update even says: if you draw certain Pokemon and Digimon we don't want to see you anymore. Now there is no way for thme to post their stuff any longer.

It bans certain Pokemon (who are even fan favorites) from this site and doesn't even give us examples how for example an aged up Riolu should work. By not giving examples and banning even Agumon, Veemon or Gatomon (no children at all) unless they are aged up you take away the live source of the Pokemon and Digimon fandom. So yeah, it is a general ban for many Pokemon and Digimon artists.

It is part of the larger, overall economy and ecology of the Internet. And that means it is subject to the actions of others outside the fandom. Ordinary people do have the ability to contact the owners and mods, and demand that the material in question be removed. Of course, the site is completely free to totally ignore those demands, but if enough people make those demands, they can attract the attention of politicians. And if a politician smells an advantage, they can build a crusade, which will then have law enforcement sniffing around.

I guarantee you, law enforcement keeps a very regular eye on this place, but until someone places political clout behind an investigation, there's no incentive for them to find anything. But once a politician steps in, they will find things. Lots of things. Even if it's complete and total bullshit, because remember, you can be accused and charged with anything. Law enforcement and the juggernaut behind it can charge you with sexually molesting the Pope with a purple spiked dildo, even though you weren't even in Italy.

But you still have to report to the police station for questioning. You still have your photo taken. You still end up on the evening news, saying "Glee is being investigated for possible sexual assault charges, and is being questioned by the authorities."

it is not an over reaction. when you read the rules and it states. clearly. that SHORT CHARACTERS will be banned. not child not childlike. SHORT CHARACTERS. that covers anyone that is short. and chibi's. chibi doesn't mean child. it is an art style. so no this is NOT an over reaction. this is a justified reaction to a stupid rule that didn't need to exist in this form. if it's really about catching people using immortality to dodge the child porn ban. then ban that troupe. not all short characters.

I don't have 100% faith in the mods but I don't agree with this outrage either, especially when they say they're going to clarify things before it even takes effect.

Just FYI, updating the AUP is a lot easier than implementing features to the site. Any programmer would know this. And I hear all the time how terrible FA's coding is.

The mods have been actively telling people in trouble tickets that a huge amount of people's art is a violation of this new policy. Art that very clearly is not depicting children.

A "minor" change that's already lead to artists who don't even produce cub getting blasted. It is anything but minor. Cub was banned a long while ago on this site. It's why sites like IB have an audience. That isn't the real reason for this.

The fact that this should be an 18+ website and they allow minors on here is appalling. If you want to create an account just put your birthday in and if you are NOT 18, it should automatically kick you off. This new policy is technically illegal. You can't just censor what you want. If you don't want this policy change or have it amended just start multiple TT's and get them to do it.

Your artwork is great and on top of that you've done so many creative and unique ideas I hope your art doesn't become lost media. They already told argon_vile to clear out his yoshis and koopas. And another artist had to delete their art of Jerry and Buster Moon from the Sing movies

It's the qualities the characters depicted that made the difference, not that they were yoshis or koopas.

That's Argonne art style so quality not sure counts there as it's good quality but drawn in his style.

Qualities as in attributes, not as in how well the art was rendered.

The rules have now been expanded to allow pregnant minors as long as they are 13+, so I will have to err on the side of power-tripping mods now. But thank you for trying to find reason in what's going on.

Dragoneer can eat it. he just caused a huge rift in his site. hope he likes losing money. because that's heading his way too. all the artists that create that kind of art will jump ship and starting paying other sites for ads and the plus features. I'm in the process of jumping too DA because i do enjoy my short characters.

There is a discussion in the discord about it. Where people are able to voice their opinions. Unfortunately, both people on both sides are butting heads. (And it feels like a toxic atmosphere at times).

They are releasing an update soon with a ton some documentation about it.
The mods are just volunteers that were told to enforce that.
The only people with the decision to make anything really is the directors.

And they are reading the thread to make adjustments to the policy since the backlash from it.
They are actively listening to people.

I've been enjoying your games for awhile now. Whatever site you end up using I'll do my best to follow.

It does feel weird that they'd post the announcement with out having any real consistency or information on what fits their new rules. As it stands, the official post reads so vaguely that anything could be considered in violation of their new policy.

Imo the closest they could come to a consistent standard is by judging the maturity of sexual organs. Even then, with so many species and art styles it'd be near impossible to say what's acceptable or unacceptable.

Hopefully they'll rollback this new rules change and we can all go back to fucking shortstacks.

From the updated journal, the rule isn't targeting shortstacks at all:

- This does not affect SFW content.

and 2/3 of the Digimon Artists are doing a "Mr. Stark I don't feel so good" because some of the most popular Digimon like Agumon, Impmon, Gatomon, and Veemon are banned now. XD

Sexual situations but who fucking cares? It's still absolutely ridiculous to ban the most popular Digimon across the board that have been a stable for Digimon artists for literally 20 years. Doing this is effectively kicking Digimon artists off the site. But hey, I bet IB is gonna love the huge influx of the Digimon community. It's literally the best that can happen to an art site, getting a whole fandom all for their own.

So artists who draw those subjects can post exclusively to IB, or they can post that particular art to IB and any other art to both sites.

To cause as much headache and trouble for big name artists as possible and thus putting preassure on FA, while utterly flooding and clogging the TT system till it collapses. What about "He makes exemptions to the rules for himself and his cronies" don't you get? Need an example? A couple of controversial artists have been banned as of yesterday for no apparent reason. Some of them haven't been active on FA for years but they all have something in common, beef with FA Mods and or Dragoneer himself. Granted, some of them are real assholes but locking them out of their Galleries so they can't comply with the requirements of the AUP Update and then say "they didn't clean up their galleries and are now in violation" as grounds to delete their Galleries completely come deadline is the epitome of corruption and nepotism.

How do you know why they were banned? You already mentioned they were controversial so that right there is suspicious.

I find it quite weird how much you're harping on sexual content here, on a site like FA that's practically made to be a bastion of it. You've faved or uploaded nsfw recently too. Is that 'some of the good content'?

I fave a number of NSFW things that I find tasteful or the artist is just incredibly talented. I don't typically commission it. The penis in particular is off-limits for my characters, I'm just not comfortable with it.

As far as sexual content goes I think it's important to set boundaries especially to avoid stuff that could be seen as fetishizing child or cub porn.

Which is blatantly at odds with the trouble ticket responses the mods have been giving to people's art.

I know you didn't assemble this list, but how can it be that a rule both "hasn't changed", but also its enforcement has "expanded to include Pokémon and Digimon"? I suppose someone could rules-lawyer this, but in a practical sense, it certainly will change. This is one of the big problems with this type of rules: they're intentionally vague, and left at the subjective whims of the moderation staff, who are very well known to play favourites.

I keep seeing people harping on the vore thing. Nearly every children's cartoon has the "going inside somebody" episode, and plenty have strait up eating people (see the ending of the original PG rated Shrek, where Lord Farquaad is swallowed whole by the dragon and later shown inside her stomach.) I admit it's not called vore when it's not a fetish, but giving the benefit of the doubt, they're referring to perfectly SFW content there.

Because one of the main problems here is the nonsensical logic on display. A key part of that being the idea that the same """"""""childlike"""""""" characters that must be protected from exposed genitals can be shown getting killed, tortured, eaten, etc etc in art that is clearly made for others go get off to and that's all a-okay. It is a blanket ban. They say you have to age up several of the most liked species onsite, but what does they mean? Why do they not provide us with examples how they with it should look? If you age up the mentioned species you don't have said species any longer. So without examples the clarification is useless and even harmful for many Digimon and Pokemon artists.

Except those are not "cub versions" of those chars. The second evolution Digimon are as much adults as the third or fourth evolution ones. Evolution is not "growing up" fer fox's sake!

As an example of how this is a problem, impmon has gotten a LOT of porn in recent years a lot of which of which tends to treat him as a short adult with only minor alterations to his basic design which dosen't even really resemble a young child on its own. Now every artist whose ever done art using that character design, even if completely detached from the source material and clearly not trying to portray him as a child has to worry about getting a visit from the banhammer.
