Fuck the mods
So we're banning digimon, pokemon, koopas and yoshis now. Fuck this shit, fuck the hypocrite Dragoneer, and fuck the power-tripping mods who are just looking for a new way to throw their weight around.
Get FA+ |
Sic semper tyrannis~!
The policy is entirely about underage characters engaged in sexual acts or being associated with sexual activity.
So you can have as many pokemon, digimon, koopa and yoshis as you like. You can even have them engaged in porn if you like.
But if the pokemon, digimon, koopa or yoshi is drawn to suggest that they are a child, then you're going to have a hard time.
Check out the specific examples here. Drawing those characters on-model in sexual situations is effectively banned by this new rule.
https://twitter.com/echoenbatbat/st.....71622839189504
but I'm literally talking about people with the genetic mutation known as dwarfism. due to a hormone problem in their developmental stages they don't grow too the full height of an average adult. I should know i have cousins with this disorder. are they suddenly now children because they are short?? that's awfully ablest of an opinion.
Wouldn't want things to get sexual! Just fetishy and sexualized, but not sexual
Honestly, there's a few more things I can add in there, but I do think this covers a lot of the problems of the new rule and what has happened since its announcement
I think we should ask for clarification on kobolds but I don't personally think it counts.
The real problem here is not necessarily the rule - it is the vaguery they're piling on by mentioning "childlike proportions" and saying stuff like "This Pikachu is okay, but this one is too cute and looks childlike, so it needs to go," coupled with a history of inconsistent application of these rules by mods.
For evidence of this, please see https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10553034/. Responses from the moderator team are copied from tickets on a number of images that are really just anatomically-accurate to the characters.
" XD
1. Thing happens
2. People fly off the handle and/or leave the site
3. People calm down/forget and return
Rinse and repeat.
There might be questionable things with this policy but I feel they'll get ironed out if there are any real issues. FA doesn't want to push users away - that wouldn't really make sense.
And I wrote many, not all.
No one is losing everything. That's called an overreaction.
Transformation has to abide by those same rules. It's just a theme, not a species.
Edit: And now another great writer just considered to leave and he never wrote anything connected to cub. This is a bad situation right now and it gets worse every hour.
To put it another way, it'd be like if golden eagles were banned from the site and *I* decided to leave.
I'm barely hearing a peep from the artists/users I follow. Only a handful are saying anything. Obviously our own personal experiences are shaping our opinions on the subject.
These people aren't even waiting to see if anything's gonna happen to them. To me, that invalidates their arguments. Humor me. Stay until it goes into effect. Create an account elsewhere and post a journal just in case. But don't fucking leave before anything happens.
I've been in this fandom since 1994. If I had a dime for every person who said, "I'm leaving!", only to have them come back in less than a month? Or even better, conveniently forget that they said they were going to leave, and just stay?
I would be a wealthy bat indeed.
98% of the people barking are doing nothing more than flinging monkey dust, and that's it. It'll settle down, FA will refine the guidelines, people will whine and cry some more, but ultimately people will go back to having fun, enjoying the art, and moving on.
At least until the next bout of monkey dust.
And just in case that word causes you distress, I apologize in advance. I know that the n-word is a very sensitive topic for Germans, but we've got a bit of a nazi problem here in the US right now. Were it just the nazis, I'd say "Fuck em'!" and give them the finger. But the nazis are marching hand-in-hand with the GQP and our judicial system, so sites like FA have to be a little more cautious in how they present themselves to the general public.
As for those who are locked in a spiral of irrational panic, they'll break out of it eventually, and will be back.
They always are.
Should we ban NSFW art with anything that walks on more than two legs? Should we not allow any BDSM art with gags, because gagged people can't give moment-by-moment consent?
Where do you draw the line?
I don't draw the line. Society and the lawmakers it chooses are the ones who draw the lines. The rest of us have a choice to either stay behind the line our lawmakers draw, or step over it while being prepared to suffer the consequences.
FA has made it clear that they are going to stay behind the line, and they have set down guidelines to ensure they remain behind the line.
Other websites have chosen to skirt the line and come closer than FA has chosen to? Some have stepped over it in small ways. Still others are stepping over the line, kicking holes in the wall and taking a dump on the living room floor. We'll just have to see how that all plays out.
Do you want to make that line go back to where it was? Or keep it from shifting further in what you feel is the wrong direction?
Then participate in the system of government you have been provided. Vote in every election. Choose better candidates, or put yourself in the ring.
It is part of the larger, overall economy and ecology of the Internet. And that means it is subject to the actions of others outside the fandom. Ordinary people do have the ability to contact the owners and mods, and demand that the material in question be removed. Of course, the site is completely free to totally ignore those demands, but if enough people make those demands, they can attract the attention of politicians. And if a politician smells an advantage, they can build a crusade, which will then have law enforcement sniffing around.
I guarantee you, law enforcement keeps a very regular eye on this place, but until someone places political clout behind an investigation, there's no incentive for them to find anything. But once a politician steps in, they will find things. Lots of things. Even if it's complete and total bullshit, because remember, you can be accused and charged with anything. Law enforcement and the juggernaut behind it can charge you with sexually molesting the Pope with a purple spiked dildo, even though you weren't even in Italy.
But you still have to report to the police station for questioning. You still have your photo taken. You still end up on the evening news, saying "Glee is being investigated for possible sexual assault charges, and is being questioned by the authorities."
Would your employer retain your services after that?
Mind you, we're not even talking about actual charges being filed yet! You're only in the news because some idiot accused you of raping the Pope, and by the time the Juggernaut finally comes to a halt, you'll be released with no charged filed. And of course, the police will say, "You've been cleared of any wrongdoing, the charges were entirely fraudulent," but the newspapers won't carry that. Or if they do, it will be back page material, if only to cover their ass.
But the damage is still done. Did your employment survive? Did your family? Friendships? Associations? I mean, after all, you're one of those...furries...
So all of this; the rules clarifications, the changes, all of it; it's all being done to get out of the path of the legal and political Juggernaut. FA is taking proactive steps to make sure that they clean house, or at the very least, PRESENT THE IMAGE THAT THEY ARE CLEANING HOUSE. That's something that, so far, pretty much everyone has missed.
Actually, lemme go off on a wee bit of tangent for a moment and say that again: This is a fact that everyone has missed.
FA is not going through the system and looking for art that doesn't fit. This isn't a purge, it's not a hunt, it's not a scouring, it's not a scraping, it's not a sweeping or cleansing. They don't have the time, the people or the resources to do anything like that.
Let me say that again, too, for maximum penetration:
FA is not going through the system and looking for art that doesn't fit. This isn't a purge, it's not a hunt, it's not a scouring, it's not a scraping, it's not a sweeping or cleansing. They don't have the time, the people or the resources to do anything like that.
FA has merely put out a clarification on the rules, and have left the responsibility of compliance up to the users. The users, not the staff, are responsible for submitting a ticket to see if one particular work needs to go.
One at a time.
Nobody can submit a ticket saying, "This artist's entire gallery is in violation!" No, they have to submit a ticket for each individual work.
So for all intents and purposes, the so-called "purge" has been nothing but artists flying into a screaming panic and SELF-REPORTING THEIR OWN WORK, or simply deleting things in a panic.
Note the word "panic", and how it's not doing any heavy lifting at all. Indeed, it would be fair to say that every bit of kerfuffle over this has been literally flying free of gravity on the wings of panic.
So what does this have to do with lawmakers and voting?
Simple.
None of what I proposed or described is possible without politicians either allowing it, or actively promoting it. And our current Rethuglican Party is 100% on board for totalitarian authoritarianism.
What, did you think the idiots behind the book bans wouldn't come here? Did you think the morons behind banning "woke" and "wokeism" wouldn't find this place a seething nest of depravity and wokeist ideology? Please. They *are* here. And I'm not talking about the admins, either.
No, our current predicament is because too many people didn't want to deal with politics. Indeed, far too many furries have enjoyed living in ignorance of this rock-solid fact, and yet even more flat out demand that this site be kept completely free of anything remotely political. Horrible people were allowed to obtain power, and nobody cared. Well, now they have power, and it's too late for people to take that power away from them easily. Now it's going to be a fight. Hopefully those battles will be fought from the top of the soapbox, the chairs of the jury box, and the levers of the ballot box. Hopefully...
Hopefully...
...the battles won't need to be fought from the ammo box.
I've said it elsewhere, if not in this particular thread, but FA does not exist in a vacuum. It is part of the larger, overall economy and ecology of the Internet. And that means it is subject to the actions of others outside the fandom.
And like I said, FA is doing what they can to get themselves, the site, and it's users, out of the way of the onrushing tide of hate and persecution.
To be clear, I lean very socially progressive, and there are some important things we definitely agree on. But, on this particular angle I think we strongly disagree. It's almost like you're saying that public protesting serves no purpose, if that comparison makes any sense?
Choice #1. Public protest. An honorable choice, provided that you are the one putting your skin on the line. If you're asking or demanding that Fur Affinity, Dragoneer and their staff put their skin on the line, while you get to sit at home and cheer them on? Yeeeeeaah, no. Not cool. If they do ask for help, and do ask for contributions to fight such a battle, and you show up on the front lines, then that would be awesome, and you and they would have my full support.
Choice #2. Get out of the way for now, and elect better candidates that won't be fascist dictators who support and advocate for puritanical crusades to happen.
Choose wisely.
Because no matter how much people might kvetch and kick holes in the walls about keeping politics out of the fandom, politics rules the planet. And anyone who tries to keep their spaces free of the real world for more than a roleplaying session or two, is a fool. And ultimately, it's not our decision. FA and it's owners and staff have to make decisions on how best to protect themselves and the users. And cleaning house is the best way to make sure nobody comes sniffing around.
More importantly, if we used your argument, then wouldn't it have been better for FA to only allow straight sex upon its creation? Wouldn't that have made FA a "stronger" place, "less vulnerable to attack from religious zealots and nazis"? I don't mean that as an attack, or a slippery slope argument, or in bad faith; from my perspective, that seems to be the logical extrapolation of what you're saying.
this is a power trip of admins that is gonna backfire heavily on them. this is a bad rule in it's current form and comes across as a blanket ban on short characters, which is very odd seeing as there are people who are child sized adults IRL. it's called Dwarfism.
If an artist posts Pikachu porn, there is now a chance the artist can be banned. Yes, it could be very small chance, but it all depends on how a mod feels. Before that was never an issue.
Posting any "cutsey" art, is now a RISK, which is stupid as hell.
Second issue, the amount of time and effort went into this, instead of something like the ability to blacklist keywords. Oh yeah, we will be protected from Eevee vagina, but hyper dragon scat can still be blasted on everyone screens.
Cancel your FA+, it's clear it's not going to improve the website but rather listening to the crying puriteen crowd. If you cancel it, you got a chance to win an art piece https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10557670/
Just FYI, updating the AUP is a lot easier than implementing features to the site. Any programmer would know this. And I hear all the time how terrible FA's coding is.
I'm not gonna play games with you, it's only $5 a month to support the site and it's the largest furry artwork repository in the English-speaking world as far as I'm aware. I'm not giving up on it over some alleged vague wording.
https://twitter.com/cchilab/status/.....757337600?s=20
Also THIS what your FA+ is funding...
Stop trying to downplay the actual things the mods have been saying to people directly.
Edit: The thanks is sincere, I realize that could have sounded sarcastic
They are releasing an update soon with a ton some documentation about it.
The mods are just volunteers that were told to enforce that.
The only people with the decision to make anything really is the directors.
And they are reading the thread to make adjustments to the policy since the backlash from it.
They are actively listening to people.
Though people in the discord discussion are cherry picking things said without context and posting it on Twitter and other places.
Which is also adding to the anger and confusing.
I am just waiting for them to post the full picture.
It isn't going to make everyone happy.
But it might help ease a few things that people are worrying about.
We love your work, and your creations transcend this platform.
It does feel weird that they'd post the announcement with out having any real consistency or information on what fits their new rules. As it stands, the official post reads so vaguely that anything could be considered in violation of their new policy.
Imo the closest they could come to a consistent standard is by judging the maturity of sexual organs. Even then, with so many species and art styles it'd be near impossible to say what's acceptable or unacceptable.
TL;DR
- The rule isn’t new and hasn’t changed.
- This does not affect SFW content.
- Enforcement is being expanded to include Pokémon and Digimon.
- Short characters are not being impacted.
- Minors involved in SFW or non-sexualized interests, such as vore and transformation, are allowed.
There's plenty of Digimon and Pokemon artwork here that doesn't violate the AUP, even the sexual stuff.
I wish you a very banned. Don't try to break the site just because you're upset.
And now you're acting like Trump. He didn't attack the capitol but he sure as hell encouraged it, getting himself banned from Twitter in the process.
I don't think FA is perfect but this is too far.
I think many people are whining over something that may not even affect them.
I'm annoyed but I'm also unsurprised because people on this site always get bent out of shape whenever there are changes.
Relatively minor rule changes are not "sweeping" and effect a lot less than you think.
I have a group of friends and surprise, the furry community is not forgetting that I exist. You should though, because it seems my mere existence is bothersome to you.
No I don't think someone would create a rule that would cause trouble for themselves.
"Dude arguing just wants attention from losers who hate him"
You can get banned for bad behavior too.
As far as sexual content goes I think it's important to set boundaries especially to avoid stuff that could be seen as fetishizing child or cub porn.
Stop believing their trash journal updates. It's a lie that they're using to try and temporarily placate people.
And like... They specifically state VORE is ok... Which is... Absolutely wild. You can vore a child according to FA admins.
Now, putting the limit on pregnancy depictions at 13, that is funky. Out of all of the places to draw the line, why THERE? Why not 18, where the line is for literally everything else on the topic?
Here is a list of fetishes present in episodes of a show called "totally spies" https://i.redd.it/4lqcaqujexq81.jpg
I use that one because it is so infamous for being fetish bait that there are dozens of lists about it online. But also dozens of other cartoons over the last century have all had fetish fuel in them, including sexualization of characters in childlike situations, often in diapers. The entire thing is just... Dumb. One of the mods said Mew is banned becuase mew is an embryo, what kind of ass backwards logic is that? People who used unevolved pokemon are getting banned because "cannonically" those pokemon are "young" despite the fact there ARE old versions of unevolved pokemon, and young versions of evolved pokemon. Some pokemon can be forcibly evolved the day they are born. It's STUPID.
Also, why did you choose one single cartoon while ignoring the extremely obvious example I gave, or even acknowledging the decades of cartoons that came before?
"There is an episode of the magic school bus in which they are shrunken down, go inside of a chicken's butt, then proceed to be encased in an egg and laid again."
Yes, yes there is. And you insinuating that it was meant fetishistically is really remarkable. Assuming that all cartoons, up to and including The Magic School Bus, are secretly sexual is... well, it's akin to a moderator assuming that all porn drawn with certain species of Pokemon is secretly kiddy porn. I didn't think the conversation would go in this direction, but you just walked into that one.
Are you an actual child to be this ignorant?
Heck, they gave Strega a three month ban completely out of the blue when they did that change, no warnings whatsoever. They couldn't even look at the actual ban reason sent to them until after the three month period.
https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/10557670/
On the other hand, if they'd actually put together the rule updates in a way that made sense, they wouldn't need to clarify things.
Yet again, I find myself wondering how stupid the mod team is.
:)
*insert meme of the news old dude in spiderman 2*
putting their birthdate to verify, they swept it under the rug, and i remember reading a forum message about them doing so because they
kept getting trouble tickets about reports against minors and they removed it to stop the tickets.
Ever since then, they allowed minors now and here they are acting as if this is going to protect anything other than their image and pride.
I wait for the day when a parent catches their kid looking at our stuff (when we are 1000% DO NOT WANT THEM TO), creating a lawsuit
because they found their kid looking at stuff here on FA. If they dont fix the age verification, a big pile of shit will hit that fan.
Its on the forums, which.... they removed the site entirely.
