Marxcissism
I found this blog post regarding a recent study concerning how narcissists are hijacking social movements to their own ends and it is strangely validating. It's a dense read and you can read it here: https://ponerology.substack.com/p/m.....issism-is-real
Alternatively, you can read the study it references: https://link.springer.com/article/1.....44-023-04463-x
The tl;dr of the blog is that many leaders in the social justice movement do not care about improving social justice and are using these movements as a means to gain power for themselves. They are every bit as authoritarian as those they claim to oppose. Curiously, they also are MORE dogmatic and prone to enforce their morals upon others than the traditionalists they oppose. The rise in reactionary sentiment is precisely because many people see these marxcissists for what they are: power hungry authoritarians. These people are the cause of the backlash against LGBT rights.
Often excused via the paradox of intolerance, these narcissists end up imposing a tyranny even more strict than the one they're trying to escape from. These narcissists aren't some mythical far away groups. They're with us here in furry spaces. Moderating chats and discords. I could name names, but FA rules forbids callouts. Ironically protecting these narcissists and making it easier for them to perpetuate their abuse. Their most favorite tool is censorship. By unpersoning someone, these marxcissists don't have to defend their behavior because most of their followers don't want to jeopardize the "friends" they have by daring to question such dogmatic sociopaths that could easily unperson them too.
If you see someone being mistreated, SPEAK UP. If you get booted from the chat too, then you're doing yourself a favor. These marxcissists don't deserve your attention. And as pride month approaches, if you don't speak up when you see mistreatment within the community, how are you supposed to have any mettle to speak up when you see someone mistreated outside of your community?
Being an ally means standing up, not being a coward.

I agree with the rest or your concerns regarding censorship and totalitarianism, but don’t give the paradox of tolerance any credence, it’s a farce. And should be pointed out as a farce.
Some ideological pairs simply are incompatible with one another. Different flavors of religious fundamentalists being examples. These ideologies are toxic and intolerant of each other. And tolerating them allows them to perpetuate their intolerance. That is the reasoning behind the paradox of intolerance.
But not all ideas are part of a broad ideology and there exists a number of people that might see hear someone say some things they dislike and jump to a conclusion because they entertain―not subscribe to but entertain―a couple thoughts that they wholly subscribe to an entire ideology! That is giving these social justice warriors the benefit of the doubt. More likely they see an excuse to engage in witch hunting and boost their social status in the process.
I hope this clarifies how the paradox of tolerance is legitimate yet often improperly used. If you still disagree, it's important to address these intolerant ideologies and how one might respond to them in a way that disarms the seeming need for such a simple axiom. Meanwhile, I'm happy to call out these left-wing authoritarians out as being intolerant, and give them intolerance in kind.
