Family dog got cancer

It is unfortunate that we live much longer lives than dogs. For 13 years we have owned and cared for lovely boy Oliver. All of a sudden, like many other cases out there, our dog started to cough and had a shortness of breathe. It didn't help that we noticed he was losing weight and we didn't, inherently, think it was tied to disease. In having to wait a week for an appointment with the vet we got the news, he has a tumor in the lungs. After greiving all of yesterday, we decided to get an appoint with an Oncologist... next friday.
It sucks that he is so lively. That he is so vocal. That he has so much energy. Right now he is on some very strong steroids, that the doctor said can keeping him going for at max 2 months untreated. Me and my sister are hoping that the oncologist gives the option of a lobectomy. A treatment that can remove parts of the lung, but that is a best case scenario. I want to say we are prepared for the worse case, but we can only say such things before the loss of a family member.
Love your pets, people. While they are present for a fraction of your lives, you are present for all of them. Be grateful that you can care for another.
