my awful confession

I just want to get something off my chest, that's been bothering me for a long time. I feel like its something that needs to be said. I hope you don't think any less of me.. but..
years ago, when I was starting out as an artist, i would take poses from photos and sometimes anime art and use those poses in my own art, tracing them off in some cases - maybe just a leg or an arm, or two bodies intertwined in a certain way, or just the arm and leg positions, hands, that sort of thing. when i can't find a photo i would take one myself, usually of my hands. I would also use 3d model posing dummies for this purpose.
I did this when I was just starting out as an artist, and also, I did it last tuesday, and i'll probably do it again in the future, BECAUSE THAT IS CALLED USING THE TOOLS AVAILABLE TO YOU TO DRAW.
there are no rules. there are only tools that can be used or misused to create art.
I regret nothing and I will do it again and you cannot stop me. AAAAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAH

I think this is a natural progression of improving your abilities as an artist. :-D
Anyone who says otherwise is either extremely lucky to be so talented...or lying to themselves. LOL's
You're awesome buddy.
I don't see the problem in this.
What matters is the final result, the drawing you wanted to do and share. If it allows you to increase its quality, then it's perfect !
Tracing for pose refs is a training tool :3
you can't really copyright a pose.
it's just a set of "characteristic curvatures".
these are just "tools of the trade".
ahh.... you're being ironic i bet Xp
There is nothing bad about it, it's just a stigma because of the common misconception that if you trace shapes, reference parts then you are a fake artist.
I found the same when learning 3d. I had the mindset I had to make everything myself, had to create every item and texture and using available resources was a lie.
I'm doing a concept art course online thing and the first things it went over that there are many ways to do art and tracing parts or reference to get shapes, poses or small details that either would take ages or you didn't have the skill to do outright is ok and is actually super common.
As long as it's just not taking someone else's work tracing it nearly completely then it's ok.
I mean I traced the outline and core shapes of a car photo. I can't do it by full hand yet myself but then made it into a mad max style car.
Anyone that says tracing is bad and you are fake for doing it has no idea on how art is done in any medium.
Honestly have more respect for artists that don't fall Into the stigma.
You're not doing it alone anyways. Folks often say "don't use a game engine!" and it's like, they're not suggesting you use a library either, they're saying "Write your own game engine" and writing a game engine is an entirely different skillset than making actual games with an engine! That's part of why they're usually made by many people, especially modern games. On top of that, though, most folks don't write their own programming language, and both Windows and Linux are made by tons of people working together. You want to use DirectX? OpenGL? You didn't heccing make that.
It's fine to use whatever resources you want, but acting like the game is better because you intentionally handicapped yourself or did it in a harder way for no reason doesn't make sense. A game is only better when people enjoy it more. ^.^;;
It's a great way to train your hands to draw stuff.
I know it's helped me a bit to print out stuff I like and practice drawing over it on tracing paper.
Of course, I'd always credit what I used
Also, rotoscoping exists.
I think people like to find issues that in the end don't really matter much, and then go on purity crusades because it feels better than dealing with reality.
