Book Covers

I know, for me, when I've completed something I've worked so very hard on, I want it to shine. This brings to mind an expression from my time - polishing the apple. This came from the custom of leaving an apple on the desk for the teacher; and yes you polished it to a good shine on your shirt sleeve. Sure, it was kissing up, and yes I did such a thing when a child.
Times have so changed.
Never mind that. We're talking about your book. Covers do sell books, and that has not changed. It's as pertinent now as it was for Edgar Rice Burrows.
In this vein, I had a back and forth with
TheScarletArtist about book covers. He is one of the artists whose artwork I consider far above average - and he understands covers. He also offers reasonable rates, so I thought I might pass this on to all of you.
OK... breaks over, back to editing.

A phrase clearly made by someone who does not understand marketing. The cover is a first impression, and those are vital. Heck, the cover art driving the sales of a book is what drove a lot of the creative choices made in the Silver Age of comics. It was not uncommon for a crazy image to be made for the cover, and then they had to try and fit a story into that insanity. Not always the best approach, but still a point to be made.

This one is a primary example: /view/26328749/, which was the first picture of Huntress and Deedee from a cyberpunk novel that is completely written and currently going through an extended editing and cleanup pass, and characters that I've used for some of my short Thursday Prompt pieces. (The artist in question has done professional SF book cover and magazine illustration work before.)

That one is sadly stuck on halfway done with several pieces to add to the middle, and none of it posted publicly yet either.
