TITAN Meets Darwin Award.

The CEO of this company got so used going through life being awarded participation medals
it ended up costing his life and dragged 4 other souls to hell with him.
This guy dismissed everybody who dared to say "This Is A Bad Idea" in his face.
This is a video from an seasoned veteran sonar operator of a US Submarine.
So his opinion on what went wrong with this asinine project is on point.
And it's an entire list.

Also you would be inclined to believe that his passengers are victims to the CEO's stupidity.
But when you fail to do your own independent investigation on a trip that will cost you $250.000,
and then on a submersible that is touted as EXPERIMENTAL using wireless game controllers
doesn't ring any alarm bells . . . . you had it coming.
Also Diversity Hires can be deadly.

"There is some sort of cosmic irony where the gravesite of a vessel containing a bunch of rich people who felt they could do what they want and they died became the grave site for a group of rich people who felt they could do what they want and died."

Who ever thought using carbon fiber was a good idea should have been on the sub. From a design perspective I can do a long list of why it was a bad idea to used mixed material construction in the pressure hull...
This is what happens when things like ESG and woke ideology get in the way of common sense. I wonder if the CEO will be nominated for a Darwin Award?
The thing is Carbon Fiber specifically the resin that binds those fibers has a narrow temperature margin
where its maximum strength can be utilized. Beyond those temperature margins it become glass.
That's why Elon Musk rejected Carbon Fiber and went straight to stainless steel for
Starship due to Stainless Steel high tolerance to temperature differences despite its heavier weight.
About a mile below the ocean surface average temperatures are close to freezing.
Carbon Fiber polymers 1 mile down at near freezing doesn't act like Carbon Fiber polymers at room temperature.
If Carbon Fiber was a viable material to build subs the world's navies would have adopted it long ago.
But hey . . . having a team of white men in their fifties is bad right?
Good riddance.
Under high pressure plastics do strange things that are unexpected like becoming soft and pliable. Or fracturing within the matrix.
The guy paid for his ignorance and arrogance sadly he took four others with him.
