Coolers.co is my go-to. It's nice to be able to adjust the tones of the generated ones, lock the ones you like, then spam the spacebar until it spits ones out that work for you.

Generally the two main ways are:

1) Similiar colours: Pick main colour, then pick two colours adjacent to it on colour wheel. Use the main colour in about 60% of the palette, one of the additional in about 30%, and the other in the remaining 10%.

2) Contrasting colours: Pick a colour, and use it as a main colour (in about 60-80% of the pice). Use the colour opposite to it on colour whell on the rest (esp. on details).

Yeah. But it's kind of a pain in the butt.
I use the uploader to upload a color swatch image. Then I lock that color and hit the generate button.

awww ya have to pay a monthly fee to use any of the specific harmony types. :(

I have never gotten palleton to spit out good color combinations. No matter what I try it always looks horrible. No matter where I move the little dots it always looks garish.

Yeah... I can never get them bright. I mean, they work, but it's mudge.

Think people have already made suggestions better than I got, all I can think of is those things off like Pinterest that have a bunch of color palettes, that I've seen used for challenges.

Find images by professional artists you like and tweak them! For example, using the color palettes defined by the Studio Ghibli movies is always great.

Of course, I'm colorblind, so you might want to avoid any of my advice >3

sadly I've tried doing that but I don't want to steal other people's colors. I want to understand HOW and WHY they've chosen certain hues and tints. but when I try to figure out the harmony or strat they've used it never pans out.

yeah but my colors aren't good right now. Lol. but I understand how it's done. Using blurs or the fractal filters. it's a neat idea but again it's still taking other people's photos or art so I'm not learning the hows or whys. But I came across a technique to try so I'm going to experiment with that today. half the problem seems to be that there are lots of ways to divide up a color wheel and that's been tripping me up some.
