Customizable character sprite thoughts
We’ve been thinking about the whole idea of a set of sprites to allow a custom character. Maybe customize species and even class. There are some mechanics that require Chel in the party so I guess she’d need to be available to be recruited early.
I’m not sure what could be a good tradeoff for losing early access to certain features like monster recruitment. But maybe some options like starting off with a stronger main character or a squad of drones/soldiers already in the party might be good. Idk
I’m wondering what kinda species would be most important to have as options, supposing there could only be like 4 or 5 species options (though maybe the traits could be mixed and matched, if I can set up a ‘paper doll’ like system for swapping out sprite parts)

The customizable character could be an assistant, maybe the only assistant that would go with her given "recent events."
If you get both characters at the very start of the game, you could have the custom character have support actives at the start (for balance reasons) and sort of build into a class archetype as you go.
For species I would say Cat, Dog, Fox, Lizard, and some sort of bird. If you make it so they can have different colors/patterns you could make it Feline, Canine, Reptile, Avian, and maybe Fish? (so you could have cats/tigers/leopards in feline, dogs/foxes/wolves in canine, etc.)
I haven't really considered assistant as an option, that does sound neat. I wasn't sure I could feasibly squeeze in all the various options you'd need to have a customizable path and all that, in the case the custom character was a MC. So, support role sounds good. I was pondering maybe giving a questline or some more 'sandbox mode' for a custom character run, since y'know it wouldn't be feasible to get alt arts for every bad ending.
I'm just wondering if that would be enough to satisfy those who'd be interested in a little self-insertion. Of course I'd rather prioritize the plot line stuff I had in mind but I figure it'd be fun to throw players a bone if that was their kinda preference. At the least, the initial area would have to have the OC as a recruit or something and maybe mid-game they can step into the leader slot. Internally, I can have some decision trees for maybe 3 OC-leader paths... A good, neutral, evil one lol.
Like maybe mid-game the storyline can leave the planet and bounce across a few planets in the planetary system.
A separate scenario would want a different story, but it could be a later update you know? Have the OC in the main game as recruitable, focus on Chel's story, then when that's done you could have a good framework to put another story in, selectable from "New Game".
Though I would understand that being way too much work.
