Mid 2023 Update
Hello Friends,
It's been a while hasn't it?
Lack Of Motivation
I am going to be honest. I have had absolutely no motivation in working on the potty chart app for almost a year. It is hard trying to make a project for a community when I don't see community interest and engagement with the project. Ever since I stopped using X (formerly Twitter) there has been very little, if any, interest and engagement with the Potty Chart app. Migrating from Patreon was the final straw. Because even if I didn't see direct interactions (likes, retweets, and comments to updates) I still had support that way.
Rejoining Social Media
I did open a Mastadon that I will use to post occasional updated to, but I have already made a decision to put the potty chart on an indefinite hold for now. I will continue to maintain the project and patch vulnerabilities, but after the release of beta v2 there will be no new feature and functionality added until I get back to working on it.
A Tough Decision
Instead I am going to be working on making the new LCM Website. It's going to be the top priority for now. This decision was made mostly because I want to cut costs of hosting a WordPress site. Hosting a Next.js site should be similar pricing or cheaper. I would rather pay the same yearly cost to host a React platform since it will be faster and I will have full control over everything within it.
This isn't all bad news. The new website and LCM Potty Chart will use a lot of the same frameworks and technologies. So I am hoping that I can reuse a lot of the code from the new website in the potty chart. If I can then development for the potty chart will the quicker and easier.
At the very least I will have more knowledge and practice with some of the new technologies, features, and frameworks I am planning to use and implement in the new website. That would make writing the code for the potty chart easier and quicker. One of the hurdles of development right now is my need to constantly consult documentation and tutorials for the new stuff and it slows me down.
At this current moment I do want to complete the Potty Chart app. I however cannot make any promises of what the future holds.
Future Plans
Right now I am dealing with crunch time at my full time job and it is requiring me to work OT and the weekends. So I cannot get to completing beta v2 of the Potty Chart app or starting the new LCM Website. But once I am done I plan to immediately start wrapping up beta v2 and getting the new website project started.
I also plan to start cycling things around to prevent burnout and keep things fresh. What this means is I will cycle out my workflow every 1 - 3 weeks. This will allow me to tackle multiple things and not have any 1 thing on a back burner for too long (LCM Potty Chart being the only exception).
After crunch I am going to take 1- 2 weeks to breathe and relax and the first thing I am going to start on is development. I want to get as much done as I can within the first 1 - 3 weeks of this new cycle system I am starting. Ideally get v2 beta done and released.
Once I get to a point where I think it is ok to stop for a few weeks then I will. Afterwards I will be getting back into creating hypno files. I have so many ideas just sitting on my backlog that I would love to work on. But haven't been able to get motivated enough to extensively work on any of them.
After 1 - 3 weeks of working on hypno files I think I want to either start planning and brainstorming a new story (likely a short story) or go back to some personal projects.
Then cycle back to start.
So it would go:
Dev -> Hypno Files -> (maybe) Stories -> Personal Projects (or a break) -> Repeat (back to dev)
I am really hoping this can help me stay motivated to work on things and keep creative juices flowing.
The Future of the Twitch Channel
Also starting after crunch is I want to start streaming a little more. I am hesitant to do it because it will interfere with my workout schedule and other projects I could be working on depending on which step I am in my cycle. But I am also starting to feel unmotivated to stream as well. Pretty much for the same reason I cannot stay motivated to work on the Potty Chart app.
I watched a few of my old Twitch clips and I remembered how fun it was. Seeing user engagement. Seeing my goal bars actually move. I hardly get any of that anymore. Maybe streaming just isn't for me with my full time job. Idk. I want to give it one more good go. To stream 2 days a week on Monday and Friday. I will give that a go and if I don't see any uptick in user engagement I might just scrap streaming and not pursue buying a new vtuber avatar, making a custom one, or commissioning one to be made.
My only other hope is to hope to move to a new platform. Which I am open to. I would just need to do some research and see if my chat integrations will work on those new platforms.
I don't really have any closing thought to end this post on other than I really hope this new system works for me and I can stay motivated and keep the juices flowing.
