Do you have an account on a mastodon site or anywhere else federated via activitypub?
Rather than using another Bitcoin-obsessed billionaire's social network, maybe we could just use....the internet, and its own protocols for this kinda stuff? :P
No, Mastodom turned me off completely. Cu,bersome and clunky, ppl can't find others, and on top you are dependend on some dude's basement server instance... if this one fail your history is gone...
Mastodon feels like a dream for IT hardliner who just want to use it "because".
But maybe it matures some time in the future...
But the best way to stay in contact is either here or patreon or telegram... I'm also curating Instagram a bit, but oh boy, this site is not made for me...
I see a lot of furry artists starting to go or to ask for an invite code on BlueSky. Is there a specific reason for that? Does it have something to do with Twitter becoming "x"?
Also, before BlueSky, I saw a lot of artists starting to give a chance to itaku, or eventually inkblot. I decided to give a try to itaku, which seem more popular and I really find it great. But BlueSky... I never heard of until recently and as the other said, it's sad it's a quite locked website for the moment.
Currently, joining itaku seems more interesting for me than joining BlueSky, so, obviously, my curiosity is piqued.
Bluesky is more “secure” than the alternatives because they do a background check on your email to ensure you’re not someone with nefarious activity and/or agenda to make the new social media into the cesspool that Twitter has become. Currently, it’s only accessible by invitation whether that’s Bluesky vetting you OR by someone else vetting you.
I would assume because of the vetting system, that’s why a lot of artists are option for this over the other Twitter alternatives as it nearly guarantees bad people stay off the platform. The only upshot is that if you don’t know someone who’s already approved and can provide a code, you literally need to wait to see IF Blue gives you a code. So it’s feels a bit of an “in-crowd only” party, but it makes it a lot easier for small business owners (such as artists or smaller content creators) to push their content first and grow faster.
I’m hoping for the best for this social media! Hopefully won’t be like Furry Network and just die off before it really takes off.
With a system like this, I'm not sure it will really be this great. What you're describing, a social network "more secured, with members without nefarious activity and/or agenda to make the new social media into the cesspool that Twitter has become" sounds like an utopia for me. Either it won't be active enough or, sooner or later, it will become like Twitter.
I may be wrong, of course, and I'd be glad to see a new social network proving me wrong. But the recipe for a working social network is to call for huge activity, huge amount of active members, etc... If we want something clean and secure, a social network is, by essence, not the good formula.
Personally, I thought it was just supposed to be a clone of Twitter, but without Elon Musk and his bad decisions for its future and that it was why a lot of persons started to feel interested in BlueSky... And if this is indeed that, I'd feel more interested to be honest. XP
