Not in the US at least. Only time you can get unemployment is after being laid off from a job after working so many months. Or after a wrongful termination. Then that unemployment is limited by a total amount, or a total of time collected I.E $12,000 @ $500 per week, or 6 months whatever runs out first. During that time you need to be actively looking for work and filling out forms with work search information (unless it's temporary layoff then different rules sometimes apply) some states may be different, but not by much.

Unemployment would be the wrong thing, but some counties/cities allow paying a stipend to caregivers. Mine does not, my county only offers partial reimbursement for "adult daycare" and medical supplies (which are not prescriptions); so if I wanted to waste my time I could mail them a receipt for the $2 of alcohol swabs I buy every few months... and get about $0.10 back after the cost of postage.

It sucks and I know the exact feeling. You may be lucky enough to live in one of those places that can pay caregivers, start by looking for the website of the Area Agency on Aging (permitted by the Older Americans Act of 1965) for your county/city, there ought to be a page that describes what's available somewhere; they'll probably have a phone number as well where one can ask questions.

You don't owe your parents anything. In fact, it seems like that parent owes you fair compensation for your labor.
You're getting taken advantage of by the sounds of it.

There are lots of state programs for being a caretaker, but you'll have to Google your state's how to but it's what I did when covid hit for my grandfather. I cared for him and the state paid me, but you'll have to keep a log of what you did, like a time card.

It's ok. Just have a piece of paper and write the date, and what you did for the day. Loser or not, there's help out there. It's hard, but each day is new, your hardships will not always be so hard. *hugs

Maybe a Callender that has big date boxes, then you can just write your happenings on the page like a journal. Being disabled and slow, just means we'll have to be a little more creative with solutions. :)

You won't at first. It's true, but KJ you're very talented, and your inner voice calling you a loser isn't true. You hare human, you are in a rough spot, and have been for some time. It's e x h a u s t i n g. I know. I've wanted to unalive myself plenty of times. But I have to keep going. And you do too. People love you, your mother will litterally die without you, I know it's hard, i took care of my dying grandfather for 3 years. He had a stoma and cancer.... and needed 24 hour care. I see your hard work. And I didn't get paid either. I still don't earn reliably. You are not a loser. You are tired. You need money, and are exhausted and desperate. Stop telling yourself your a loser and you'll be surprised at what happens.

I would look up laws on being a caretaker and also see if she qualifies as a dependent for tax purposes
