An ode to the visual pun
I like visual puns, I like fairly terrible goofy poetry, I was bored but unable to draw so I created this as an outlet. If anyone reads this entire thing I will be shocked. Make of this what you will, random internet users.
Peace.
The pun is humour's finest work,
Comedy's peak, a hilarious art
And since I'm an enormous dork,
Drawing them sincerely warms my heart.
To take a pun and make it real,
An image placed firmly on a page —
To cause the viewer a seconds pause:
As Through the silliness they feel,
Liberated from the stresses of this age.
To share them is my ultimate cause.
Taking the stupidest little joke;
A fish living inside an Abrams tank,
A dying frog about to croak,
Or the river trying to rob a bank.
And elevating it from written medium,
Adds nuance and expands the meaning,
Lifted out from the den of cliché,
Boredom, "cringe" and tedium.
Though you may be less pun-ward leaning,
You enjoy them too, despite what you say.
The only reservation that I entertain,
Can my meagre skills do them justice?
Can I highlight the humour it must contain?
Or will my attempts lack zest and spice.
My technical skills in the visual arts,
Are often lacking the refinement and class —
Needed to present my mind's true vision,
Leading me to many false starts.
Maybe after my failures reach critical mass
Will I win the battle of creative attrition.
For now I can and must forge advances,
In pursuit of my final artistic goal,
To share the visual pun that entrances
My minds eye and my creative soul.
I hope my past efforts bring someone mirth
And that others can see their intended humour,
The slight smirk a good pun should bring
Or a bad one, for what it's worth.
If I can make only one person less dour,
I will be successful, my heart shall sing.
Peace.
