Sometimes you just have to rant about random stuff. Don't judge :)
On AI “art”
Is it art? In my opinion it is NOT. Although what is art in this day and age is highly questionable. Long time ago we already crossed the Rubicon of obscurity when it came to defining it. Today even a shit in a bucket is considered art when you put enough bullshit around it or call it performance, but I digress. I won’t be getting into a discussion about it because it’s a long one.
Am I against it? NO.
I think this is a fun tool to play and it might even help in self development as an artist. Because let's be frank, those images are very often stunning when it comes to form, colors and composition, and that could serve as a good tutorial and learning tool.
Is a person using AI an artist?
You are not an artist if you are using AI and then presenting it to the world as your own, and even worse trying to make money with it. If anything you are an insult to all artists in the world…except for the ones who think shit in a bucket is art, because this is where you belong in a shit bucket. Quick way to make money for people with no talent and no respect for actual artists who spend their lives learning and mastering their craft. If you are one of them, shame on you.
That’s why I think FA is a solid site when it comes to its policies about it, and places like DA or ARTstation should take example, despite being so very much flawed on so many other levels.
Is AI a threat to artists?
Yes and No. It most likely won’t be to people working for companies that deal with art in one way or another, because those companies care for their image way too much. For little and private creators who try to make a living out of freelancing, I would say YES, although those who managed to create a style and name for themselves not so much. It’s way too many variables plus human shitty nature to consider. There might be a time when REAL creators will have to unite and massively ban AI creators from our platforms.
On Daisy Duck
Random as fuck. In the past, of all the core girl characters of Disney, I liked Daisy the most. I guess it was because of her spicy temperament that was making her the least bland of the bunch and something super feminine about her too. I didn’t put much thinking into it, because come on! XD
Lately though, I found some old Donald Duck comic books at home and I read some of them just to chase some nostalgia, and many of the stories were really good and funny. Except for one detail which was Daisy. I am not talking about stories that happen in some alternative timelines, universes, parodies etc.(altough sometimes it was over there too).I am talking about the current timeline which I assume is canon. Daisy is a straight up abusive and toxic bitch to Donald and Donald is a simp.
It didn’t break my heart or anything. I am just kinda disappointed with myself that I didn’t spot that earlier. Aside from her hot temperament, I guess that’s how ducks are in Disney universe, which might be funny to a reader is not funny if you take the point of view of Donald. Most of the time she is mean to him, neglectful, critical and dismissive. She only shows him any sort of affection from time to time when it suits her. She also openly dates his cousin while dismissing it as no big deal, right in front of his face/beak. It seems like she is playing with both of them, and Donald is still pretty much simping for her instead of dumping her. And I know that Femme Fatales are very much on top right now, for who knows what reason, it is not a good role model to follow in the long run.
You give love a bad name Daisy. :)

The two main problems I have with AI art are copyright/integrity issues, since it's near impossible to know exactly what images it's building off of or who made them. Legally speaking it's a nightmare, and ethically speaking it's immoral and insincere. And speaking of sincerity, my other problem with AI art is how there's no intent or actual thought put into creating it beyond activating the image generating software. No matter how advanced it's gotten, results always looks at least a little wonky with extra fingers or loads of needless details on buildings, because despite the name, AI doesn't really "think", it just follows a bunch of rules. AI doesn't know what a "mistake" is, or how to correct one. Sure, you could fix them yourself but at that point you might as well just make a whole picture proper. Artists can choose to follow rules, as well as make them, break them, re-define them and ignore them altogether. Sure a lot of the results can look terrible but that's how art evolves. Artists have the ability to make "bad" art on purpose.
Quite honestly, while I wouldn't like it at all, I would respect a literal bucket of shit presented as art a million times more than a really good-looking piece of AI art. Because at least with the former, that takes real forethought and intent. It takes chutzpah. A bucket of shit doesn't just appear from nowhere, someone has to choose to get a bucket, shit in it, and put it on display. And even then, every step of the way requires conscious thought. Do you use a rusty metal bucket, or maybe a plastic toy bucket? Do you put in a single turd or fill it to the brim? Should you display it on a pedestal? On the floor? hanging from the ceiling? Maybe behind glass, or out in the open to let the stench become part of the display? Whatever you decide, I wouldn't like it, but I wouldn't say it's not art, because at the very least it made me feel something, even if all I feel is disgusted and confused.
If it makes him happy, then more power to him and I wish him well - I rarely encounter his stuff these days, and it looks like it would compress amazingly well as a PNG, so he's not going to be wasting any real storage space on the server.
(I'm hardly one to talk when I don't reflect nearly enough on what *I* create!)
But I definitely have a lower bound on how much effort someone has to put in before it's art. Unless the person involved is 3, in which case not eating the delicious crayons is impressive enough.
Not art though.
Creating the prompts is definitely a skill, getting the damn thing to do what you want takes time and luck and learning and a degree of deviousness, and maybe there's a degree of artistry in knowing what you want to create, but it's 99% banging the rocks together.
Threat to artists... Potentially - depends on their market.
Disney - I've never liked the classic characters because they were so shallow and stereotypical when I was growing up, and because of the slow and bendy animation - especially compared to WB and HB. Maybe they've changed, but I have no incentive to watch enough to revise my opinion. I won't condemn folks for watching/liking, but while I won't walk out if a room if it comes on, it won't be a reason for me to stay.
Which said, I can see some complexity appeal in what little I know of Daisy.
I have to say, I loved TailSpin and kiiinda enjoyed Scrooge McDuck.
I think everyone can agree, however, that the problem arises when entirely machine-generated images get passed off dishonestly as human-made images. Thankfully there seem to be tools for detecting GPT-generated text, so I'm sure there must be a similar system for detecting AI images.
