Lastik's FF14 adventures
Been stormy and I got a hella headache. Did some 12 hour shifts at work which didn't help either, but at least I got two days offs now.
Surprisingly enough given the workload my my FF14 enthusiasm, I actually did good progress on the lewd and got the main scene done. Just need to do the 3 short vignettes now.
Anyways.. So FF14 spoilers ahead so be warned.
Just done the MSQ in which we rescue the scions from the Castrum and rally the alliance leaders after the Empire gives them the Ultima weapon ultimatum. I'm guessing I'm... halfway through it? Maybe 2/3s of the Realm Reborn MSQ?
Been trying out other classes and currently my highest is the Red Mage at lvl 55. It has a cool rhythm to it, tho I'm looking for other classes that hook me. I tried samurai but it seemed a hella lot complicated. Also got a Bard at 50 (I unlocked the Red Mage and Samurai with that one), and a Summoner and Scholar at 38. Scholar was actually fun, didn't expect the fairy to auto-heal party members unprompted. Was expecting to be similar to Carbuncle in which you'd have to cycle states.
I know I unlock some more stuff at 60 I believe, so maybe I'll stick to Red Mage for a while longer. Most of the other stuff requires me to finish a realm reborn first.
Also tried Monk but I don't like the rotation, feels clunky having to keep track of stances and positions. Maybe I should try the ninja or the lancer instead.
Tank wise.. gladiator didn't catch my eye, feels like it does significant less damage than marauder. Looking forward to unlock Gunbreaker and Dark Knight tho.
Anywho, that's about it for the Lastik, stay cheeky y'all!

FA+

It's all good tho, all classes have their own unique challenges.
Blue Mage tho.. bitch I wanna throw sardines at people faces!
Finished the ARR MSQ today (well up to defeating Ultima and Lalabreha anyway, roll the credits and all of that) and unlocked flying and blue mage. I can see why it's a pita to level Blue tho, it's more of a side project.
Also can I just say I love the detail that when you complete the Ultima dungeon instead of doing the victory pose, your character just solemnly nods. It's such a small detail but it really hammers in the gravity of the situation.
No spoilers though! :D
Was a legit "Oh, this is how you wanna do it huh? LET'S GO FAM, I WON'T SHY AWAY!" moment on me!
I might take a wee break to unlock stuff like tribal quests and whatnots that I've been leaving behind. Been so invested in the MSQ story line that I've let other stuff slide by (except for class quests).
Because of ONE thing in particular. Saves you a lot more unneeded teleporting. >.>

Also Tanks naturally don't deal as much Damage as the other Jobs sure Gunbreaker and Warrior do more damage but again that isn't as important for said class.
And yes I main Paladin and Monk so this is coming from personal experience. All classes are gonna be a little lacking around Lv50 but they all get better in higher levels so please don't write em off so soon.
I think my beef with Samurai is that it was essentially a bomb drop of skills and gameplay at lvl 50 when you first unlock it and it's a bit overwhelming. Couple that with the names being all in japanese so it makes it harder for me to connect name to skill. I assume the same will happen to other classes unlocked at high levels, you hit the floor running with those and you kinda need to go hit the training dummies to figure out the class rhythm.
We all have preferences for one play style or another, which is fine, but like all things I think it's just a matter of practice.
Honestly I don't even notice the stances since pretty much have my simple rotation making stuff all click. Muscle memory I guess. Honestly your lucky you didn't play Monk between ARR and Stormblood when they launched.

Seriously tho, the ARR MSQ was hella fun and interesting. I love the detail that when you finish the Ultima dungeon, your character solemnly nods instead of doing the victory pose. It's a small detail but it hammers in the gravity of the situation. Now I've started doing the patch MSQs.
My hotbar organization got waaay better now, because I'm a dumbo that didn't realize I had an option for a detailed action screen, that shows what combos into what. That made organizing things way easier!
Ended up finishing the game with Samurai, once I organized the bar and spent some time in front of the training dummy, things clicked for me with that class!
Paladin is definitely my favorite of the tanks, but all four are good. I'm saving them to level last on my final road from 80 to 90 because I like them. Lancer/Dragoon is alright but you've got to wait an ungodly long time before you start getting your full combo rotation, especially your AOE which will literally be single button spam until the level 60 quest, at which point you get a 30 second cooldown, until finally at 62 you get a second part, and then all the way at 72, the third.
Oh, and yes, definitely recommend sticking with red mage, definitely my favorite caster, though summoner is alright and you get Scholar levels for free with it.
Red Mage is hella versatile and the class lore rather interesting actually. The whole dual cast mechanic seems simple yet makes it so adaptive and interesting, and the aesthetics of it all are amazing.
Also... blue mage.. throwing sardines at peoples faces.. just sayin'..
Also JoCat's videos do a genuinely good if brief and humerus job of summarizing it. https://youtu.be/EcQzgMvwbT4?si=16i.....AIzJ&t=397

Was super happy today 'cause not only I finished the ARR MSQ (started on the patch stuff now), but I also got the Chocobo head he uses!
I like pet classes in MMOs, and FFXIV no longer has one. :(
They're fine for what they are, but the feel of them totally changed.
In that regard I think WoW does a better job with a "summoner" class in the form of the Demonologist Warlock. You have a tanky pet that's always with you and then you attack by summoning more stuff onto the enemy and it feels real satisfying to see all the chaos and demons popping in and charging at the enemy. Dunno how Summoner was like in earlier iterations, but folks been telling me it's prolly the class that got the most reworks.
Basically as a DPS, a Summoner's damage wasn't that great, but there was an immense amount of flexibility. Titan-egi was nowhere as good as a 'real tank', but it was good enough that I tanked dungeons with it when the 'real tank' disconnected. No good on bosses with fancy mechanics, but sufficed for tank-n-spank.
I also had a resurrect spell, which was damn useful if the healer went down. I dunno if they still have that.
I think their intent with the rework was to make the Summoner more like it is in other Final Fantasy games, where the summons are basically just flashy spells.
But yeh, kinda silly you have a dps summoner class in which your combat pet technically does very little. Heck, the Scholar's pet actually does more because she actively heals on her own.
