LeafBiting 2023 do be looming
Also a condensed lil update, 2023 has been relentless. Literally from January 1 getting my vacation canceled, cancer scares, twittermob trying to cancel me, FA mods, family members passing away, friends falling out, dealing with a ton of minor stuff uuughnnn. Despite everything, artmoods have been drifting by and I have been drawing up a storm at EuroFurence, expect lots of pencil drawings to be posted soon. Wouldn't mind the universe backing off of me for a while now though X3
Anyway! Two weeks from now (October 4th) I will be kicking off another round of Leafbiting challenge. Returning Biters know what's what, but for those new, below I have detailed out what this whole thing is about. Still have questions? You can note me or leave them in this journal as well!
As per previous LB, I'm going to do an art raffle for 2022's honorary leafbiter and post a chibi of their character on a recipe i will post somewhere during leafbiting this year. The Discord chat group for leafbiting and is still going strong and because of the success of previous years I encourage everyone to post their progress, activity and recipes in there. Everyone new (precious lil sprouts) joining up this year will be sent an invitation to the Discord chat as well~
Regarding the raffle to become an honorary LeafBiter and get featured in a recipe I post for Leafbite:
- Join up!
- Keep your fellow Leafbiters updated on your progress, ups and downs! Especially at the end of the challenge, let me know how the experience was for you! We're all here to support each other! You can do this in the comments on these journals or in the new Discord chat.
- Find a tasty recipe you wish to share? Put it out there as well! In general, show your participation!
I'm looking forward to Leafbite with you this year <3

Commonly asked questions:
Wtf is Leafbiting?
October 4th is World Animal Day, something that doesn't seem to be a very well known fact around the world, oh well. As my gesture towards all the tasty animals I love to eat so much, including fish and other seafood, I refrain from eating any meat for 2 months (until December 4th, my birthday). It helps me appreciate eating meats even more so, I think anyway.
Can I join?
Yes! Please do~ You don't have to do it for the sake of the tasty animals we love to eat, it's simply a challenge you can set yourself.
How do I leafbite then?
Starting the 4th of October, we all stop eating meat for any period of time up to 2 months. It sounds simple enough, but if you're not used to a vegetarian diet, you need make sure you properly substitute all the animal foodstuffs you cut out. Think of beans, soy products, eggs, nuts, mushrooms, cheese and other dairy, readily available meat substitutes are usually found in most supermarkets. It's a good idea to think ahead of time and plan the meals for your days/weeks/months of leafbiting, find vegetarian recipes from around the webz and ask your fellow leafbiters or vegetarians you know for suggestions.
How do I join?
Leave a comment on this journal, stating you want to join. Tell me for how many days you'd like to participate, anywhere from 1 day to 2 months (61 days). I will then send you an invitation to the Discord server where you can share your experiences and recipes with other Leafbiters :3 If your period overlaps with special holidays (like Thanksgiving or maybe family birthdays) and you don't want to put out your family by having them put out vegetarian meals for you, you can ask for a day of exempt. These days won't count towards your total, but at least you won't have to sit around people eating meat while you chew away on a salad.
It is IMPORTANT to
- make sure you eat properly, get all the nutrition you need. I can't say it enough, just leaving meat off of your plate isn't healthy. Talk to your roommates or parents if they're the ones usually cooking for you to see if they want to help you or even cook for you through this period.
- have fun! Don't suffer through meat withdrawal or malnourishment just for the sake of joining. If you don't know your limits, just go for a few days or maybe a week at the most to be sure you can handle it.
I'm already a vegetarian
That's great! I hope you appreciate what we're trying to do here then, even though you can't really join.
I don't want to Leafbite
That's fine. The reason I do this is BECAUSE I like eating meat after all, so I see where you're coming from. If you still want to do something for World Animal Day, you could spend the day spoiling your pets rotten, help out at your local animal shelter or give them a donation of pet foods or monies you can afford to give to charity, anything to show your love and support for the animals living with us on this planet :3
I think Leafbiting is stupid because *insert reasons*
Honestly I've heard them all by now. Even so, if you really object to any of this or need to say something unproductive, send me a note instead. I want to keep this journal an encouraging environment for those that do want to join. I have had to block people before that didn't seem to understand this.

I think I can only do about two weeks this year, or at least that's how long I'll sign up for.
I should be able to do everything else though.
would like to join this year too
for the two months
I will try to be a bit more active but knowing me I might still not say much X3
