Mastodon is a Twitter alternative that's been around for a while, except its gimmick is decentralized instances. Bluesky is actually based on Mastodon's infrastructure.

Bluesky is data hungry. It's tracking you with a lot of metrics when you use it and is probably selling that to advertisers.

"Jack from Twitter" is Jack Dorsey. He's the original founder of Twitter. He currently sits on Blueskys board of directors.

That's because at this point, Bluesky is invite only. They have to do this so they can manage the load of users while they gradually improve its infrastructure. Mastodon didn't do this and it did cause problems during one of the mass migrations from Twitter.
