Trying to get my spark back - sketchbooking - inktober
2 years ago
So, lately I've felt like I've been in an especially bad slump personally. Work has had me feeling burnt out and upset lately, and it's no secret I don't draw as much as I used to. Honestly, it's not just on FA. I've barely drawn anything for myself over the past few years.
Last week, I decided to get into sketchbooking and devote more time to art and so far I feel like it's been going well. Sometimes, I really hate to say things like this out loud for fear I might jinx myself, but I've been drawing every day over the past week, and trying to spend at least 15 minutes per day working on more fundamental studies such as focusing on working on anatomy and poses. I've spent 5 hours over the past week practicing on line-of-action.com and it just feels good to get into drawing again.
I've owned dozens, maybe a hundred, sketchbooks over the years, but looking back at them, they all seemed somewhat hollow and wasted potential. I really want to do better, and if anyone has any suggestions to what I should work on, let me know. While we're at it, if anyone has any resources that have helped you on your artistic journey, I'd like to know.
I've decided to attempt inktober this year, working with the 2023 themes while also trying to incorporate Disney into each day's theme. I'm putting these up on instagram (meggynessart) , but does anyone have any suggestions for places I should be posting to? I just don't know that they fit in with my gallery here. Maybe I can put them in my scraps.

I'll let others make any signifcant suggestions since I don't actually draw, but I can recommend a phone app called "Handy Art Reference Tool" that may help you out regarding extremity poses. This is primarily human based, but I'm sure much of it can also apply to animal appendages. It also includes some head poses and props as well. I believe the app is still available.
I asked around, and an artist friend mentioned that a YouTube channel called Proko was a great channel for learning/improving art things. Here's a link if you're interested: https://youtube.com/@ProkoTV
He also sent me this for digital painting, I'm not sure how much it'll help but I figured I'd share anyway!

Even though I haven't done much with digital painting, I think it's good to take inspiration from different resources and art styles.
