It's sad to see, but not surprising. I (very begrudgingly) have a Twitter and it's on it's way to becoming my biggest platform. It's reach can't be denied. But in terms of it being an actual good platform for sharing art, it's always been bad. FA is still the best, IMO.

They pretty much largely have already. Bluesky is full of people, and mastodon as well. Both are quite busy enough its hard to keep up with it all now. Artists are fine to post there for reach, but really should keep a gallery as a portfolio for prospective clients to look through to see the art. Scrolling through media to see pics scattered between pictures of food and other RL crap is kind of annoying and you miss a lot of stuff that you might see on the gallery here.

Personally best thing is to pick one of the new places as a main for normal posts, use a multiposter to hit up both (or other) places and link back to your FA. Links aren't currently penalized on Bluesky but that could change since its corp run. They will probably never be penalized on Mastodon. Bluesky seems to have more of a general audience. Mastodon has more technical furs but certainly an art community that might be smaller, but it has a pretty good reach, I've noticed people are much more likely to boost posts on Mastodon, on Bluesky they treat reposts like they are a limited commodity just like people did on Twitter.

Bluesky is SUPPOSED to go federated, just like Mastadon. For the moment, they're providing a jumping off point for people to get used to the idea of federation, so we'll have to see what they do. They will most likely do a hybrid build, where they commercialize bsky.social, but help people spread out to the wider, federated system. That way, they keep the more tech oriented users happy, but get to reap the commercial benefits of those who are too lazy or too intimidated to move.

It might federate with other blue sky servers, when and even if they ever happen. I wonder if it will ever federate with things like mastodon though... I will also add that Bluesky is terrible to use on android mobile. Via web I can't get images to post, they just show up blank on my post. In their app, it only lets me choose from a list of every picture on my phone, and there is no scroll bar, just your thumb and 3000 images and woe betide you if the image you want is on the bottom.

Facebook's Threads is planning to federate as well. So soon it could be a Mastodon/Threads/Bluesky versus Twitter deal. That might be the only way to compete with Twitter.

Yeah, I ditched the app, but only because I wanted to switch to mobile web. I *wanted* the interface to be annoying, so I don't spend all my time on it, LOL!

Bluesky links only work for Bluesky users. And moving from Twitter to Jack's new project he's fixing to sell is a 100% lateral move.

Fediverse links work for everyone, it's been around longer, there's a ton of furry instances, and even on non-furry instances, furry related tags regularly trend. https://furryfediverse.org

Beyond always being an abysmal place for art, I've never wanted to be on there because of it's surveillance capitalism model. It's only continuing it's flaming nosedive.

Yeah, it was on it's way down about two, maybe three years before Musk bought it. He just shoved the stick forward and hit the afterburners.

There's always Newgrounds, that's where the refugees from Tumblr went when that went Puritan.
