Inking bird TF stream tonight

General
Inking is one of the most difficult stages of drawing there is. It combines the difficulties of sketching and shading, of both assigning a 3D object with 2D representation, while also indicating the relative shadows of the assigned area.
I sometimes try to avoid it by using a "painterly" style, but my experiments there only go to show how useful inking is. Without it, shapes get easily blotched and hard to keep separate from the background. One could delicately touch up the borders between foreground and background with rim lighting, but it requires a lot of patience and discipline.
Of course, that's the technique I also use with my pencils and colored pencils. I've always been afraid of physically inking. I can't stand any prolonged activity that requires constant focus and punishes the slightest mistake. Some would say that's the best part, as it teaches you to live with your mistakes and incorporate them into the work.
Oh dear, I'm being wistful again.
I'm inking the cassowary TF page tonight, and I'm going to try getting it all done. The issue with digital inking is not so much the making of mistakes (which are easily erased), as it is spending too much time on mistakes, and not letting yourself move on.
I'll be on at 6 PM Eastern at https://picarto.tv/Rimme .
